New membe with a new Parker

Hello, my name Is Dan and I recently acquired my first Parker. It is in the 72000 range, 12 ga with two sets of barrels one 28" and one 36". It is well aged a nice brown patina with the only case colors on the bottom sides of both forearms (looks like it was used a lot) but mechanically excellent. As far as I can tell it is a CH grade and a 2 frame. I understand there isn't a lot of the CH grade guns and am wondering if it is worth having professionally restored or should I leave it alone. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

Dan - Sounds like an interesting gun. Good, sharp close-up pictures would help to evaluate your gun.

You should consider ordering a PGCA letter on the history of your gun. If you join the PGCA, the letter will only cost $40. As a non-member, it would be $100.

Thanks for the reply, I will post pictures tomorrow and yes am planning on joining and ordering a letter. The gentleman I purchased it from was about my age (old guy) and said it belonged to his fathers great uncle. Don't know why anyone would let a gun like that out of the family but who am I to blow in the wind? According to my research it was made in 1892. BTW are 36" barrels common?

36" barrels are not common at all. Anything over 30" is considered special order and anything over 32" is rare.

And a C grade 2 barrel set makes it a very desireable gun.

Now, is this a hammerless or hammer gun?

Your question about restoraion work really depends on an assesment of the original condition of the gun vs what the gun needs done to it. And how any work may effect the value of the gun.

If you are considering any restoration work, i cannot think of a better candidate from a rarity and desirability standpoint. Good, quality work that is true to original and correct is of the utmost importance with such guns.

I would love to see pictures of the gun.

Thank you all, I will post pictures in the morning and as far as work, it really doesn't need any. It has been used a lot but cared for. There are some dents and dings in the wood but it has not been mishandled. The action is tight with both barrel sets. It is a hammer gun and both hammers are in good shape and tight.
