Hello All,

I want to let everyone know that there will be a vintage cup event this year! We'll be returning to the Eastern Shore of Maryland at Hopkins Game Farm. Make plans to join us and continue the tradition. Please see the information below and look for more details.

2016 Vintage Gunners Cup World Side-by-Side Championship & Exhibition Set for September 23 – 25, 2016 at Hopkins Game Farm in Kennedyville, Maryland

The Vintage Gunners, official and legal successor to The Vintagers: Order of Edwardian Gunners, announces that the 2016 Vintage Gunners Cup and World Side-by-Side Championship and Exhibition will be held September 23 – 25, 2016 at Hopkins Game Farm in Kennedyville Maryland.

The format will be similar to past Vintage Cups with shotgun side events on Friday and Saturday and the main event on Sunday. Side events (hammerless and hammergun) will be held in all gauges from 10 through .410. In addition special events such as an American Classics competition, one and two-man team flurry events, a ladies two-woman team competition, and a black powder competition will also be held. This year’s Vintage Gunners Cup will be the Eighteenth edition of the World Side-by-Side Championship & Exhibition scheduled for its traditional weekend in September.

Following its grand tradition of hosting one of the finest sporting arms exhibitions, tents will be set up to house the booths in which gun dealers and related vendors will display their merchandise.
Shooters will find accommodations and fine dining in nearby Chestertown, Maryland just 10 minutes from the venue.

Hopkins Game Farm was one of the pioneer clubs in the introduction and success of Sporting Clays in America. George Hopkins knows how to run a good shoot and I hope this is the beginning of a new and successful Vintage Cup.

One more thing! I hope this is not the same weekend as the Orvis Game Fair at Sandanona! That would seriously hurt this new Vintagers event.

No, it's the same weekend as the Northern SxS Expo at Rock Mountain, another premiere venue managed by fine folks who oddly enough announced their dates last September. JMHO but we're way too small of a fraternity for such divisive tactics. Then again, you want a war.......BRING IT!!

Hopkins is one of the clubs I shoot here in MD. I wish it was'nt on the same weekend as Rock Mountain. I'm committed to Mike's shoot.

We'll be at Rock Mountain too, along with so many SXS folks we have come to think of as family.

It's too bad the Vintagers folks didn't investigate 'shoot' dates a bit better as this could be detrimental to their renewed efforts. Oh well, the 'learning curve' doesn't take prisoners.

Why would the Vintagers set this shoot up knowing the shoot that was going on at the Rock, not only do you split the shooters, you have now also split the vendors.... Why would you do that, and please don't tell me they didn't know...... it's been posted for almost a year :banghead: I am sorry but the Vintagers blew it, or maybe they just want to try and sink a very good shoot:whistle:

Your right John, why would they do that? Perhaps if all the active double gun shooters would send the person in charge a letter or email respectfully voicing our concerns they may see the light and do the right thing.

I'll write to him, what's his contact information?

I sincerely hope a bunch of us write to him expressing our concerns not only for the Rock Mountain shoot but for the success of his too. It doesn't do either organization any good by planning two events on the same weekend.

go to the Vintagers website. the email address for the current president is there and open to website viewers.
I emailed him several months ago and he responded very quickly and was professional and very nice.

MHO but I doubt anything will change.

I hate this as I have really missed the Vintage Cup not being around and was pumped that Mike started such a great shoot and was willing to schedule his shoot to accommodate the shooters.

Lord and my wife willing I plan on being at Mikes in Sept.

This makes no sense to me either. The opportunity exists here to have one hell of a good shoot with increased participation from both vendors and shooters if these were not at competing locations. Personally, I'll be driving from NC past the vintage cup all the way to PA for an awesome weekend of shooting at the Rock.

Combine the two?

I drove from North Carolina to Maine for the Vintage Cup at Addieville a few years ago, and my feeling after leaving was thank goodness the PGCA was there. I had a great time, and the venue was fantastic, but I felt like the PGCA/Fox organizations brought the majority of the shooters to that event. Again, that's my opinion/recollection but based on prior participation numbers I don't see the point in having competing double gun events on the same weekend. People talk about the Orvis Game Fair being the same weekend, but that's not the same type of event that we're holding here. Two SxS shoots with people who cross over between these organizations in the same weekend? The fraternity of double gun shooters overall is not a huge community, and we shouldn't be competing with each other when potentially working together could provide for a better experience for vendors and shooters alike. John, I'm fairly certain that Rock Mountain extended an invitation to the Vintagers in order to team up for one big event from the start, which in my mind makes their decision to hold a separate one an even bigger slap in the face.

Mike,

yeah I figured they had tried and extended an invitation.
I have spoken to several people in the know and I have known about the revival of the Vintage Cup for several months. I don't think anyone knew they would pick a competing date though.
It is a damn shame.
Word amongst some of the vintagers is that they want to keep their event formal and small. Word has it that it was said that they did not want it to be as large as in previous years and not a tournament type event but more of a fun event like its origins.

I hate to see this happen as like you said the shooting population is small to begin with and this is just un necessary.

All my best to both events but I will plan on being at the Rock and supporting Mike. Not being done out of any malice or ill will, as again I wish them both the best, but my commitment is to Mike Koneski and his shoot and the PGCA.

The Fall Southern this year is October 21-23, just so they can avoid that weekend as well.

Dean Romig

I sent an email to the Vintagers this morning expressing my/our opinions on this conflict in dates and how it will only serve to dilute both events if they continue to pursue the dates they have chosen, and that attendance of both vendors as well as the SXS shooting/collecting community will suffer. I haven't heard back from them yet.

I guess if the new Vintagers wants "small", they may just get it. Like Mike's place, George Hopkins' place can support both events on the same property. Maybe a lesson will be learned this year.

I highly doubt (maybe one or two) that anyone from the Parker Club will be attending the Vintagers, they will be at Rock Mt. The Vintagers knew that weekend was booked to be the shoot at Rock Mt and they decided to run their shoot anyway, hoping they could split the shooters and vendors :nono:

Have the Vintagers explained the choice of dates ?. Be good to know the reasoning

Bill , I talked with Gary Lacey of the Vintagers and they feel that that weekend has been traditionally their weekend So they are not willing to change the date.

William Davis

I guess that's a reason , not sure the on and off Vinteger events qualify to reserve a date.
