When did Parker quit putting the long oval and start putting the shield on DH buttstocks?

Thanks for your knowledgeable help.

They didn't, as far as I know. However, I have seen shields on D Grade guns. Some appeared to be factory restocks.

The oval was the standard for the Grade 3 guns since the 1870's.

I did a cursory flip through TPS and did not see written info regarding stocks. Now I admit it was cursory but is there much in there about stock making?

A good amount of this info is included in the "Grades" section. Details about stock features on each grade are listed in there.

I believe the only shields that were used on grade 3 guns were on hammer guns.
The standard location for a shield on hammer guns was on top behind the tang. I have seen Grade 3 and 4 hammer guns that have both the upper shield and a lower oval in the toe line.

But, it was standard for hammerless guns to use the oval in the toe line on D and C.

I have seen at least one D hammerless with a shield like a V grade. The rest of the stock, drop points, checkering, all factory D grade. I'm thinking it was a factory restock.
