I am looking at the following gun, PH 32", Special Steel, #2 frame in pretty darn nice shape. Serial number is 205,821 and there are no records. The gentleman just wants a fair price for the gun but the condition being pretty nice makes it tough for me. What do you think,? I know the old story "if its worth it to you then buy at a price your comfortable with" but give me a little more than that.
If you don't want to openly comment shoot me a PM.
Thanks

I don't like the pad but otherwise...a PH with steel barrels is fairly hard to find, and the gun looks nice. The wood looks like it's been refinished, too.
Minimum $1500...probably tops at $2500....

i think what you see on the left is just a scrape,
I agree the wood is likely refinished-
without knowing the price - PH are nice, but don't seem to bring top dollar
with all that said =nice gun - i you think the price is fair- go for it

Wood refinished. Forend oversanded and is below metal.
But maybe i am just nit-picking.

The feedback on the PH was interesting. As a newcomer to parkers ( got my first 18 months ago ) I am learning. I always am interested in what the members think of a gun. I did not notice the oversanded forearm, but when back to the pics and got it. When I look at or handle a Parker I look for the positive and not what is wrong with it as I should.

My valuation for this gun is based on the metal - the 32" steel barrels and the nice looking receiver. The wood, not so much, but it remains a viable gun for someone looking for a good shooter that will handle modern shells. I guess a 'fair' price is at the lower end of what I said. At $1500 both the seller and buyer should not feel too violated.

To me you are buying a put together
shooter with long barells, and I think
most of the value is in the barells and I would go for it

You are helping me establish a view, buying Parkers from people with the dreaded internet access can be difficult as most of you know. First off they assume every Parker is worth $$$$$$, then they go to the most expensive gun that looks something like theirs and say yep I want $3000 for this PH....or they might go to the Gunbroker Auction on the Turnbull restored gun and say my hammer gun looks like that! Yep its rusty with a cracked stock and I am missing the left hammer but I want $4000. I don't take issue with it but if it's something interesting to me I try to give them a somewhat educated response backed by some facts that they can rationalize with. You buy more Parkers by being genuinely nice, helpful, reasonable and I always end with "good luck with your sale even if its not to me". Most of the sellers I have met don't care about the gun they have sadly enough, a lot of them are recent inheritances and they just want to turn the value of the gun into a nice shiny new Benelli/Beretta/Tikka/Sako. I would give my left ??? to have a family gun passed down to me. The other large group of sellers are "flippers", they catch something from a friend of a friends family who have no idea what they found in the closet but just want it out of the house. They are just turning and burning them as fast as they can. Then the minority is a gun from a fair honest long time owner just looking for a good home that understands the market and is a realist, these guys become friends and also stay in touch with you when they hear of another Parker for sale.
Every little bit helps, after all its only been 4 years since I made my first mistake buying a Parker to keep.....15 (I think) guns later here I am.
Oh yea the topic at hand, this gun I think is worth between $1000 and $1500 to me after listening in and going on my previous experiences. On a real good day it might bring as much as $2000 to the right person.....maybe a bit more.

Brian, your thoughts on value for the gun as it sits are right. And that is the mindset that you should have making an offer. The gun has some good things going for it and some negatives. and the price should reflect that.

Is the forearm wood a replaced item or is the metal and wood replaced? Is the gun for sale on an internet site? I would look closely at such a gun. No problem if someone gets to it before me.

I think the PH especially with twist barrels is one of the best values in vintage American classic guns. Better wood than a V or Trojan with classic but subdued engraving. Twist barrels are off the charts in my opinion in terms of contrast and wow factor. The great thing is most twist PH's sell for about the same as the lower grades. I would hold out for a gun with fewer warts and consider twist barrels. I would not consider $1500. A good buy\value for the subject gun. Just my opinion. Thanks Craig

To me the difference between 1500 and 2500 is alot if I was buying a gun . So in all the buyer/seller should be happy at 2000 ?
