I still have about 8lb. of 4756 and I use it for a 28 ga. 3/4oz load (9900psi.@1150fps.). Does anyone have any 16ga.,3/4 or 7/8oz. loads using 4756? I know it's great for heavy loads in the 12 but I don't load any heavy .
12's anymore. I used it for years in 7/8oz. 20ga. loads until 20/28 came along.
I been saving it until I get a 10ga. but have'nt pulled the trigger on one yet.

You should jump on Gary's 10 ga. two-barrel set hammer gun.

Thanks for the heads up Deano but it's one of those dangerous damascus guns.:) What a beautiful gun but I don't know what use I'd have for 26" barrels on a 10. When I do pull the trigger on one it will have 32" tubes.

4756 is not a good powder for lite loads in the 16ga better suited for 1oz and even better for 1 1/8 oz . Never seen any data for 3/4 oz or 7/8oz .

I am getting good results in the 16 with Green Dot, 3/4 and 7/8 oz loads. This after many dead ends. Key is the right wad Downranges DR 16 is back in stock, anybody loading light 16's ought to lay in a supply of DR 16's. Other wads you have to use fillers The Blue DR is made for light loads.

Thanks Bill, I've been using the DR wad for a few years with 20/28 and it has worked well. What load are you using with GD for 3/4 and 7/8oz.?

14 grs with 3/4 oz. 15.7 with 7/8 oz. 16 gauge . My P-W bushings don't have a charge drop between the two. 14 is about perfect for targets. 15.7 and 7/8 has more recoil than I like. I have an adaptor that allows MEC bushings in a P-W press, am going to see if I can drop back on the 15.7. MEC 25 or 26 ought to do it. Will see.

All my 16 G base knowledge came from the 16 Gauge Society spread sheets. Good reference for old data no longer published.

Loaded up a few more Green Dot 16 G Using a MEC 28 bushing dropped 14.7 Green Dot. Hope this will tame the 7/8 oz load just a bit.

3/4 oz am staying with 14 grs of Green Dot and just ran off a hundred to shoot in the Trojan next week.

Caution, always check your powder measure drops with a scale, and my load may not be safe in your gun.

After shooting 16 gauge guns exclusively for the past 30 years I have settled on two powders. Unique for 7/8th ounce and light 1 ounce loads and HS6 (Winchester 540) for heavier field use in modern (post 1930s) guns. I used to use Blue Dot for 1 1/8th ounce loads but found I could get just as many birds with a 1 ounce load and avoid the abuse of the 1 1/8th load in my light 16 doubles.
