I'm Going!
There has not been much talk on the BBS regarding this shoot. Those of you who have been, know what a really good time we have there. I would like to get some discussion going and get our new members interested in attending this shoot. If you have never been before check out the link below (check out the Southern SxS on the menu Tab) to see what is going on. There reportedly will be a bunch of vendors in the tents this year! Plenty of opportunities to shoot and socialize and meet some of the greatest folks there are who are interested on our particular disease "Parkeritis".
We need to get some participation going here. All you Parker Repro guys - you know who you are (Marvin). Come on up and we'll find you an original for you to shoot in the Challenge Cup. You can shoot the repros in the other events and I'm sure there will be a bunch of repros for sale in the tents. You might even latch onto a really good deal on an original gun.
Gotta get some shooters out there if we're going to thump them Elsie guys!
If anyone has picture of the previous year's Challenges, please post them up for others to see.

See you all there,
Carl.

I certainly would like to make it to the Southern one of these years, unfortunately it won't be this year.:crying: However, a part of me will be there, Wisconsin engraver Bob Stosin will have a table and is taking my A.H. Fox 20-ga. 30" Ejector Sterlingworth Special, he'll have my gun and other examples showcasing his craft. Good luck to all the Parker shooters!

Hi Carl,
As you know I will be there once again trying hard to help team Parker. For anyone who has never attended this event I believe there are more Parkers for sale at the Southern than any other event on the east coast. Safe travels and hope to see you all there.

Again, I will miss seeing everyone. As a word of encouragement to those that have not been, I must say the people I met that are members of the PGCA as well as most everyone else that I met at the Southern were nothing less than wondeful. If that is not enough to attend, the Southern has the most beautiful guns you will most likely ever see in your lifetime. Boys, even what guns you will see at the hotel will make you drool with envy. I still can' get over Mark Conrads little 20 gauge hammered Parker with fluid steel barrels and if I remember correctly it is a D grade. Plus having an opportunity to shoot with these fine gentlemen let me know that I was not God's gift to SXS shooters. What sportsmen...

Carl,
Thanks for your earlier enccouragement, I plan to be there with my Parkers. I doubt if I shoot, as I just don't know much about those ranges. I look forward to meeting some of you fellows, seeing some Parker guns, and watching the shoot. I really am looking forward to it.

I'm with you Harry. I'll miss it again this year too. For those who have not yet attended the Southern... get there somehow. It is a wonderful social and shooting event and yes, there are more fine parkers for sale to keep you salivating for weeks to come. And like Harry said... even in the hotel rooms...

I plan to be there with my son and grandaughter on Friday and Saturday. I want some knowledgable Parker Folks to look at my 20 bore 30 inch straight stock DHE with the English proofs. The letter didn't tell me much.

Carl,
That's a great pic, didn't have one of Hick and I at all, thanks for posting it. I stole it, saved it to my computer, hope you don't mind. The fella on the left looks familiar but I can't say his name. Who it is? I'm sure I'll be ashamed when I'm told who it is but I've met so many great guys down there over the years even I forget sometimes.

I'll miss this year again sad to say, but my check book says a big thanks. As I shot in the SNOW on Saturday I thought of the warm weather, friends, and Parkers at Deep River and regretted not being able to attend. I even have a hammer gun now:eek:
Perhaps next year will be better. I know Eric and I are discussing it already.

4 days and counting, can't wait. Had a great practice session Sat and Sun - should be all tuned-up for the match(es). Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
Destry - I've been racking my brain and can't for the life of me remember who the fellow on the left is. I have a few more I'll post later.
Carl.

After the shoot on Saturday with high winds and temps a "High" of 40 I too am looking forward to the Southern next year. I am sure that Rich and I can get a couple more MI guys to help us drive down there next year. As I have said before the shooting course is ok nothing great (maybe poor) but what I miss are the people, I really miss having an unofficial Parker gathering at our hotel room every night after the shoot, that was a lot of fun and worth the drive by itself. Yes next year.

I would not miss the Parker -L.C Smith challenge for anything. I will give up a skeet tournament at Ft. Bragg for time with the Parker. If only I could make the Parker team...... See you guys soon. Neill

Old Hick will be unable to be there again and will miss like sin seeing all the old gang. OLd age and other problems happen at eighty three. I will be rooting for the team.
Have one for me,
Hick

Neill, I think about visiting Fort Bragg at least once a year, but for 43 years, I have somehow avoided going through with it. I wonder if it's how I left it? I wonder if the old jump tower on Stonestreet Avenue is still standing? I have threatened to attend an NSSA shoot at Bragg and may do it this year or next.

Hick, though I will not be able to attend either I've got to tell you that it won't quite be the same knowing you'll miss it. In the most sincere sense of endearment (and I hope you don't take offense) you are kind of like a mascot to a lot of us - an anchor to the old times...the better times, and you will be missed.

Bill, I do not know how long it has been since you have last visited Bragg but much has changed. It has really grown. We would love to have you down for a skeet tournament. We are hosting the Masters on the 29-2 May. It should have a good turn out. Hope to see you at the Southern.

Neill

I had a total surprise this morning via a phone visit from Mr. John Hickerson. What a pleasant conversation we had covering several topics ie hunting, Parkers, and the Southern. He confirmed that he is not attending the Southern like me and the Mich boys.
Hick, is one of the real gentlemen of the PGCA and I hope he is up for the Vintagers this fall so I can call him Party Boy once again and to his face. Yes I am planning on attending the Big "V" event and reaquanting myself with the Parker guys/gals that I happen to miss from time to time.
Hick call me anytime the notion comes to your mind as the call sure is a pleasure.

Hick and Roger, I will miss you both. Oh well. I guess I'm the "Old Man" of the Southern. It won't be the first time.
