Appears that either the book or the description is wrong.

If the barrels are not cut, that is a pretty honest looking gun!

Picture of the end of the rib would be a clue. A PGCA letter would compare the order book entry with the stock book entry. The stock book entry may be different from the order book entry. The stock book entry is later than the order book entry and may be the configuration of the finished gun. I believe the seller purpously neglected to picture the end of the rib when he advertised the gun.

Kenny don't jump to conclusions. The Book can be wrong and as Murphy said, the order and stock books over-rule. Plus, they may not be the FIRST set of barrels the gun had.
Good job bidding.

Thanks Guys....I called seller and have a return option, I paid with C/C and its on the way. Seller got the gun in hand, the top rib matting goes all the way to the end....)-: he says it looks good enough to be factory work so at the price I will look it over in person. It may have just the right choke for grouse. I plan to check her over good and pattern it. If all is well, keep it and look for some 1 frame 16ga. 28" M/F ejector barrels for it. I think if the barrels had been correct length it would be worth way more than 3K, maybe about 8K! Big thanks ...SXS ohio

It may be the perfect grouse gun for you Kenny, but how does rib matting that goes all the way to the end look good enough to be factory work?

This is a non parker guys opinion of muzzle that do not look hack sawed off. He claimed he could not tell it had been cut and that it looked correct.....We will see....sxs ohio

Yup....It is the gun I had talked about at Hausmanns, needing to have internet so I could bid more money if my opening bid was surpassed. After getting more info about the barrels I am happy no one else was bidding. If I keep it I will need a comb riser. The price was the motivator on this one, its hard to find a DHE-16 that is in good shape with skeleton plate for 3K....(-: Kenny

Congrat's Kenny !!
I was watching this one pretty close. I almost bid at the last minute, but because of the possible cut barrels & seeing you were the high bidder. I didn't pull the trigger on this one.
Still a good price for a DHE-16

Some of my favorite shooting Parkers have cut barrels, especially the 24 3/4" DHE 16 I bought on this forum.

Thanks Bill...I am a grouse hunter so open chokes are a good thing! I hope all is well with the DHE-16 It was a vary good price for a D ejector 16 gauge. I hope I like it and there is no other issues with it. I do have a full return option, just have to pay to ship it back....(-: SXS ohio

The DHE arrived...barrels are cut back to 26 1/8" and looks good, tubes touch. Small amount of pitting in the right tube just short of the muzzle. Chokes measure cyl/.002 Other than that it is super condition, never a screw turned, only normal use. Lever is right, ejectors work perfectly. I do notice the lifters do not lift unfired shells up out of the chambers... only 1/8 or 3/16 ? they should lift them up so as to remove them easy like 3/8" or so. The unfired rounds are hard to remove. 2 5/8 chambers, barrel weight 3lb-4oz and the gun weight is 6lbs-4 1/5 oz. Early engraving is very nice, little color case on exterior, barrel blue is original at 90% or better with a couple rust blems but not bad at all. I think I will keep it. I would like to get a extra set of DE 1 frame 16 barrels for it if anyone would have a set to sell. thanks all SXS ohio...

I'd sure keep it, it sounds like a great gun in every aspect. Sure it would be nice if the barrels were not cut but really....who cares? I think you made a great find and a great deal.

Photos are in the gunbroker link in an early post on this thread. Great gun. Hurry up with the PGCA letter. It could include original owner information as well as repair work done before 1919.

One of my favorite shooting Parkers is a GH 16 with barrels cut from 30 to 28 1/2. Not a collector piece but an honest gun to shoot

The DHE-16 is a keeper for sure! If the barrels had not been cut back 2" it would have cost or sold for 3 or 4 times what I paid for it! I am working on a comb riser for it like the one I made for my little CSMC Fox, I like a high dimensions, I do not cover up the target...keeping it just above the barrels. It will see the grouse woods this fall...(-: Thanks all SXS ohio

Kenny;
It was nice meeting you at Hausmann's and putting a face with a name. I really liked your comb riser. Great idea.

This wood riser is attached with automotive two sided tape. I inlaid the tape for a flush fit.

I am working on the comb riser for the DHE-16. I have been taking pictures as the work progresses. I have a good 6 hours getting the part made, fitted and ready to test shoot. The part is now ready to test for proper rise amount and point of impact. I will install riser to the gun with masking tape for this test. I plan to post all the pictures when the project is finished.....thanks all,,,SXS ohio

As we talked about at Hausmanns, we need to try and get together and shoot, since we are only a couple hours apart. I shot at Briar Rabbit in Zanesville, Oh yesterday--that is not to far from Matt either. Used my little VHE 20. I can bring my DHE 16. My GH 16 O frame came with 27" barrels, but bought it cheap because of that and it is one of my favorites to shoot.

Harold; where is Briar Rabbit in Zanesville? My wife's family had their 2nd annual "reunion" in Zanesville two weekends ago and I was ready to commit supuku by the middle of the 2nd day! If Ida known there was a SC range anywhere nearby, Ida packed a trunkful of guns and pulled a "seeya at dinner" while the rest of them basked by the pool!! Tell me where it is and I'll tell the wife, "Gee, Hon, can't wait for next year!!!"

The test shoot was good...point of impact is good for the way I shoot, just a smidge of light under the target. Her are the production pictures. It took some work to make cherry wood look like figured DHE wood from 1912. It looks very close but I could not get that light honey color that weaves in and out of the darker streaks of the original stock...I also tweeked the wood to wood fit and I think this as good as it gets! Soon as the final coat of lin-speed dries I will peel the protectant off the two way tape and stick it onto the wood, it has plenty of contact area and will stay put fine. This makes a very low stocked gun shoot properly for me with no bending or re-stocking. The cool thing about it is if I want to sell the gun I have done NO damage to it! Just pull the part off and hand buff the wood back to its original shine...(-: SXS ohio

very nice Kenny, a craftsman and a gentleman.
Kevin, Briar Rabbit is just 5 miles south of Zanesville, just off the Muskingham River. It is a very nice sc range and will host the Ohio state sc shoot. All traps are electronic and there were were 4 traps at each station--A and B were a little easier and C and D traps a little tougher. Since it was the middle of a Wed afternoon, there was no rush so we shot pairs from each set up. I was using a little VHE 20 and did not feel undergunned or that the shots were too long range. So drag along your favorite Parker to next years reunion, and be sure to call me, I'd enjoy shooting with you
