Lest we forget, designated " Decoration Day" in 1868 by the commanding General on the Army to remember the fallen of the Civil War, both Union and Confederate. The date was always to be May 30. It was to decorate the graves in every church yard in every city, town, and Hamlet nationwide. The day may have changed to accommodate business, school, and government operations but the purpose remains the same. This should be a solemn time for reflection and thanks. To all the families that have sacrificed so much for us to be able to live as Americans, God Bless you and Thank you

Probably one of the most poignant Decoration Day recantations I have ever read is the very moving "Not Without Honor", the second story in Col. H. P. Sheldon's book Tranquility published in 1936 by the venerable Derrydale Press.
For those who do not have a reference copy, I will type it in its entirety and post it in a separate thread here on the forum on May 30th - the historical date of Decoration Day.
In the meantime, as we observe the 'new' Memorial Day, have a safe one!

Better late than never. I just saw this and want to share it with you.
This is an incredible video. I wish we, all Americans, could hear some strong patriotic speech like this now, today. It sure seems to me to be missing lately and I think we need a good dose of patriotism injected into our society if the country is to be strong and independent.
One example: I don't understand how one day we can hold up cops and firemen up as true heroes and then, too soon, they are branded the bad guys? Will this happen to our military, I suspect someday they may fall from favor too. I hope not, but this is a fickle place in which we live?
I saw today on the news that ISIS is training their youth, right now, to become part of their efforts and that women are encouraged to have babies so they can become warriors for ISIS in 18 or 20 years. They understand that a strong force is built from the youth of today.
I remember a time when we had movies to watch that made me proud to be an American and we had real role models that instilled pride in the USA..... We did have Chris Kyle but even he was pulled down by some. I can't remember Audie Murphy ever facing such negative messaging!
Sorry, I got carried away. Watch this, its good!

Here's another:

Captain Yellin is an amazing man and seems to be in remarkable good health. Although he stated he flew the final combat mission on 8/14/45 and his wing man was the last combat death of WWII on that date the hostilities continued until the surrender on 9/2/45. What is believed to be the last aerial combat death happened 4 days later, the only reason I know this is because of my interest in aircraft and the last death reported happened aboard the then brand new B-32 Dominator. There were only a few built and it barely saw service in the war. It was the back up design for the B-29 in case it failed as the B-29 and B-32 were designed to carry the first nuclear bombs as no other aircraft could do it. On a side note the R&D cost to develop the B-29 was greater than the cost of the Manhattan Project.
