I am wondering what kind of information a person could hope to get on a very late model Remington Parker in the 240000 range.

Likely just an IBM card if anything.

If the gun was sold through Ambercrombie & Fitch you may be able to get a ton of information about the original gun and original buyer.

PGCA has some information beyond IBM cards on a number of Remington guns, but not any original owner information to speak of. Check the "research letters" department on the home page to see if there is any information available on your gun.

Thanks for the feedback. The serial number of the 20 gauge VHE is 241373. Parker records show there is information available.
Griffin and Howe do not show any records on their web site.
Original wood that is very nicely figured, with lots of case and bluing. Only real question is it has a pretty well dried red pad installed. Forgot to look the pad over for the maker.
Since I have never ordered a letter on a Remington era gun not sure what information I might be able to get. Have sent a PM to Chuck.
Any idea if Remington was installing pads, and what makes?

I have a Remington VH12 with a silvers like pad that has the butt covered with thin leather.

Phil,
Some late Remington Parkers came with Mershon pads.

Thanks guys for the information on the pads. I bought the gun, and will post some pictures in a few weeks when I pick it up. Really a sweet heart of a gun. Would enjoy seeing pictures of some of your Remington Parker's.
I am surprised to see D grade guns with pads, when the Skeleton butt plates look so nice but my very early DH 12 gauge with Vulcan barrels S/N 82223 letters with a Silvers pad, and a very recent buy a DH 28 SN 173862 letters with a Huntley pad.

A Huntley Pad? That's a new one on me.

Yes I had never heard of a Huntley pad until I read the research letter. It seems that prior to WWl they made a sponge rubber pad. After the war I believe Jostam made the pad.

I went yesterday to look at the pad and take a few pictures. The buttstock sports a Fray-Merchon inc. white line red pad marked SKEET STYLE. Thanks to Chuck I now know they only info on this VHE 20 is on the IBM card and type of butt end not noted.
Gun was made in 1935 the same year that I believe Mershon offered the pad. The fit and aged look could lead one to believe it is original to the gun.

Unfortunately the friend I bought my DH 28 gauge from replaced the pad prior to my purchase. Letter documents the Huntley pad. I have attached a link to a drawing on the patent. I am currently debating about either a leather covered pad or installing a Jostam sponge rubber pad.
My gun was ordered in 1916 by the Charles Parker co NYC for E H Hotchkiss ( Stapler company) cost of the pad was $4.00

Phil, I also have a VHE 20, Remington era, with a Mershon pad that appears to be original to the gun. It was displayed as a benchmark gun at the 2014 PGCA Annual Meeting. The Joan Bennet DHE 20 also has a Mershon style pad that has been on there at least since I was about 11 years old when I first saw it. There was a time when Hawkins pads were not available to the trade and Remington bought what they could get. There is also a prewar Model 32 in the Remington museum that has a Mershon pad. I doubt that gun has ever been out of the building since it was built.

Anyone have a good picture of the face of the Fray-Mershon pad on the Joan Bennett gun? Baer states "the gun probably originally had a skeleton butt plate."

I wonder if it might not look like this --
