Whats the rarity of a 16 gauge top lever grade 1 or 2 ?

Don't have one , or know of one . But I would be interested to get one to shoot .

Preferably with 30" pipes !

A 0 frame 16 hammer gun would be much more rare than a 1 frame gun.

So whats the likelyhood of finding a decent Grade 2 ?

I say 30" but I could be fine with 28" also . I want one to shoot .

16 gauge hammer guns, both lifter, and top lever, are like Lay's potato chips; Once you've had one, you want another. They're certainly not as common as twelves, but far from rare.
My first 16 ga. hammer gun was a lifter, and I have had four top levers. All of them were 0 frame guns. I have only parted with one. I have never seen a gun made as a sixteen only, that was anything but an 0 frame. While it may be true that hammerless 16s are more commonly 1 frame, I'm confident in saying the reverse is true in hammer guns. I'm sure there were 1 frame sixteens, but I've never seen one.
I have two 26" hammer sixteens and one 30". I prefer them over any other guns thought to more suitable for sporting clays. They are lighter, but not whippy. The 30" has been expertly restocked by Chris Dawe to dimensions I provided, and is an absolute joy to shoot.

I'm sorta kinda tryng to get 10's , 12's and 16's for hammer and hammerless .

I've got the 10's covered although I'd like to get an EH #3 32" to match my hammer gun . And I'm thinking a top lever #2 12 gauge with 32" pipes . The 16 idea just came to me in the last couple days . Already have a semi decent GH 16 thats IC/LM but I would rather have a VH or GH with 28"or 30" M&F and of course a hammer gun to match .

I have two of the three I've owned - all Grade 1 guns and all 0-Frame. I let the 'unfired' one go a couple of years ago, sadly. So, of the two I still have, one is 26" (apparently the only one made by PB) and the other is 28" and has been my very favorite SC and grouse gun.... and it has been for sale but is now spoken for, pending funds.

I've only ever seen two 1-Frame 16 ga. hammer guns... one being near new.

without revealing names, a very fine southern gentleman let me use his O frame 16 ga hammer gun( top lever) with 30" damascus barrels, it was a grade 3, at our hammer gun shoot at Drakes. It was a wonderful shooting gun, hated togive it back.

I hate to admit it but I had NO INTREST what so ever in Parker hammer guns until I lucked into the Grade 2 top lever 10 gauge last summer . Now I kinda kick myself over not buying a Grade 2 top lever 12 gauge I had a chance to buy a little before I got the 10 gauge . That 12 gauge was 32" on a #2 frame if my memory serves .

I am very fortunate in having found two hammer 16's. An O frame top lever with 30" tubes, grade 3 , only one of eight made.and a lifter, grade two with 28" tubes. I shoot and treasure both. I also ave a fantastic top lever 30" grade 3 20a and just found a grade 2 30" top lever 20a but the owner will not even consider parting with it.

There just might be an easier way around this !

If I can find a grade 2 top lever 12 gauge on a #1 frame and then a set of 16 gauge barrels I could have fit to the gun . Or better yet a 12 gauge Grade 2 on a #2 frame and 16 gauge barrels that could be fit to a #2 reciever !

Didn't you say an "easier way"?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. If you want a fish, don't buy a cow and try sticking fins on it.

Edgar should know. He owns 10 of them. Maybe more under his bed.

Actually, I blame the wine for screwing up one of my father's pieces of wisdom (or not). I believe he said "If you want a good cow, don't buy a fish and waste a lot of time teaching it to Moo."
