Damascus Blade count

Help! I have researched a lot of material to learn how to determine the blade count on damascus barrels but to no avail really. Info seems to be conflicting or more likely I just don't understand it. Can anyone tell me how to determine the blade count by examining the barrels?

There was a great small salesman's sample case about a foot long by two inches wide of English Damascus pattern barrel sections for sale at the Old Baltimore Show three weeks ago, with each pattern marked with a nice ceramic label in the lid, six pattern sections in all, from stub twist to "extra fine" quality. Really a quality collectors item priced at $2400 USD. Next best thing I ever saw was Dr. Gaddy's reference sample display that he assembled before he began his restoration process for Damascus refinishing on Parkers and other vintage American Damascus barreled guns. The hues and colors were fantastic.

I'm sure Dr. Drew has pictures of samples in his collection. The Remington sample (or should I say a Remington sample) rod is pictured in Semmer. I found a wonderful 1882 Remington in high condition last weekend and went into Semmer for information. I has been a long time since I opened that book and now, again, realize how great it is. OOPS! Drew beat me to it.
