I just bought a Whimore model 10 ga with what I take to be a quail on one side and a rail-snipe on the other. With star Damascus barrels. It has about 20% engraving on it has been put back on its face and barrels and stock redone. Was the a model for this gun or how were they sold.

I have read that there were around 1400 of these guns made the one I have has the 1890 patent date on it and is in the low 10xx and the company went out of business in 1901. I found this in a Cabelas store in SD. I feel that I got very good buy. Can any body guess on how many shootable guns survived ? Not many. I hope to work up some smokless brass loads for it.

Neat gun. I have an American Arms side opener. They are of good quality in my opinion.

Back in the day, many of our old gun company catalogues included load recommendations and quite often carried admonitions like this in the 1903 Baltimore Arms Co. catalogue --

not to load smokeless powders in brass shells.

I have one that is a little loose in the action. I looked at a copy of the Whitmore patent and believe that the hinge pin is adjustable as both sides of the hinge pin have slots for a screwdriver to make the adjustment.
