I am curiouse as to how a lifter 8 gauge feels versus a lifter 10 gauge . Also interested in how the same thing for top lever hammer and hammerless guns .

I realize frame size and barrel length may very well influence .

But I suppose with all things in consideration do the different action guns balance/handle as nicely as the 10"s ?

I find my top lever hammer 10 #3 frame with 32" pipes to handle nicely although a slight touch heavy . I think the gun weighs about 10 pounds . My EH on a #2 frame with 30" pipes is about 8 3/4 pounds and handles well .

Based on my question it's safe for you to assume I've never had a Parker 8 of any action style in my hands .

I can tell you an 8 is way heavier in most cases....in fact it probably has a little less recoil.

But do they balance as well ?

And I don't know how to say it other then , do they feel lively in the hands ?

I can't say that at 15 and a 1/4 lb. that my 8 ga. is lively. It is a 7 frame with 38" barrels.

My 30" DH eight weights exactly ten pounds and handles like a bird gun. However, it is probably the lightest hammerless eight that Parker Brothers ever made. A friend owned a #5 frame eight lifter that probably weighed less than ten pounds. In contrast, my #6 frame ten with 34" Vulcan barrels weighs more than 13 pounds. It really depends on the individual gun how they are going to handle.

Wow Bill that is a real find. A 10 lb I have talked to Mr. Armbrust about his 10 lb greener in detail. I did not know parker made such a light 8 bore. I think this is ideal for shooting a 8 bore today since most loads used in them today are light for target shooting and you cant hunt with them at all in most states(like mine) and no waterfowl hunting period in any state. As I am sure everyone already knows.

craig this is my opinion of my 8 ga s my lifter 8 ga has 26 1/4 inch barrels they been sawed off it still weighs about 13 lbs does not handle well like a ten..my fish tail hammer gun is also short barrels 27 1/4 but does not handle well....the lite 8 at 11 1/2 lbs handles ok but not like a average ten at 10 lbs...now if you have the gun to the shoulder and are hunting it swings ok...but no 8 ga i have is snappy and wispy to swing with and not balanced at all..but you will love a big 8 bore foir just what she is bigger than a ten....charlie

I can only speak for my 5 Parker 10's and 1 Parker 8. The step from a 12 to 10 is nothing compared to the step from 10 to 8. The 8 is 13+ pounds, 34" bbls. on a 6 frame. My 10's are either 2 or 3 frame and have barrels between 26" and 32"
