Good Morning,

Someone said I had been bitten bad by the bug when I said I was looking at a VHE 28 to go with my newly acquired VHE 20, they were right. Beside my 20 now sets said 28.:)

The stats are: 28 gauge, double triggers, splinter forearm, 28 inch barrels, dog's head butt plate, choked mod./cyl., VHE. Serial number is 170723.

Anyone have any information on this they can share with me? I know I should buy the book, but I would rather spend money for guns and property.

Pictures are attached, though my pictures aren't the best in the world.

Thanks for any information and for a great bunch of people on this site!!!

FWIW , I was of the same opinion as you .

But in December I bought the two volume thing and just recently got a copy of the serialization book .

The two volume set is nice enough and yes pricey . There's an over abundance of info in those two volumes . However there's alot in there that a good many gun accumulaters aren't intrested in . And I understand a GREAT amount of effort was made in compiling all the info . And I did learn Parker had something to do in the steam engine industry back in the mid to late 1800's (I am kind of a steam engine person as well) . But I wasn't the one of those that was driven to compile all the info , so far be it for me to well you know .

The serialization book is about $35 and I think money well spent . A very large amount of compilation in this one as well just not on a so grand scheme .

I know I should buy the book, but I would rather spend money for guns and property.!The 2 volume set is $195, a fraction of the price of that 28 or real estate. Buy them.

I'm not even a real Parker collector but have found that the $195 I spent on the Parker Story to be well worth it; a GREAT publication.

I'm just a hillbilly from Iowa, but if you are even remotely interested in Parkers and what you are doing.......... BUY THE BOOK ! LEARN THE BOOK !

Yea, In the world of Parker Shotguns it is the go to book, I have two sets a leather signed one and a dog eared canvas set that is almost worn out. It is my hands almost every day. But of course I am retired and not a day goes by with out me in the gun room doing some research on a gun or studying them closely, find something I missed a lot of times, Gary

Hey everybody,

Thanks for all the responses and support. I know, I know.......buy the books. You all will be glad to hear that is just what I am doing this afternoon. At least the serialization book, it just dawned on me that my father-in-law has the double volume set. It seems to me that letting me use his copy would be the least he could do since he's the one that started all this!

Harold, I am in Cochranton, PA. About 45 miles south of Erie down I-79 (God's country-regardless what Potter county PA says).

Just to give an opinion ,the books can and will save you more money than the initial cost of the books many times over , not to mention all the additional information on the Parker Family ! What interests me the most is the info. on each grade of gun are the facts about how many guns were made with certain length barrels ,Twist Steel Damascus ,etc. ,very informative and none of this info. is in the serialization book ! If you were asking me, should I buy or not buy the " BOOK " i would say without question , BUY THE BOOK !:) Just my 2 Cents ! Russ

PopPop,
I didn't see an answer about gun in Serialization Book. Unfortunately it is not there.
I'm 5 miles north of the PA line and Sugargroove, PA.

I have a place in upper Crawford county.. Spent some great days in the swamps around Cochranton and places North of there all the way to the shores of Erie, Ducks and Timberdoodles for sure. Very nice looking 28 to keep the 20 company.

Thanks for all the replies, and support. My father-in-law has an 0 framed 16 also, and it is a sweet grouse gun.
John, where in northern Crawford Cty is your property? We have a parcel just south and west of Albion kinda towards the "jumbo woods" game lands.
Bob, you're close to where we like to ski, Peek n' Peak. We were there a couple of weeks ago, the first time in two years. After all the sickness we went through it felt good to fly down the mountain again.
With so many of us being this close to each other, we may have to have a SxS shoot here locally some place.

In my humble opinion , I do not think you can be a knowledge purchaser of Parkers without the BOOK. It is the only source of so much detailed info that it would be hard for me to determine the value of a gun without it. I love the small bores and rarity can add a lot of $$ to the cost.

Larry, my place is a stones throw from the Cussewago Bottoms (a hellish swamp bottom but full of backwater Beaver ponds and ducks) I have hunted from Shakleyville to the lake shore.. I hunt Albion quite often when the woodcock are on the move (along the creek). I once had an older gent (who was obviously thrilled to see me relaxing with the dogs on the tailgate) pull up to tell me I was a few weeks late.. What do you mean, I asked. They come around and over the lake and drop in here briefly, try a few weeks prior and watch the weather next year ,he said.. And so I did and had some fantastic and stupid days of lots of Woodcock.. Those kind of days are meant for that little 28 and a young pointing dog.
