Skeets bore gauge 20/28

I'm looking for a Skeets bore gauge for 20 and 28 ga.
I believe I have read that some/many on the site have switched to the more expensive Hosfords or Galazans?
I'm hoping that someone is interested in selling their Skeets.

You won't find anyone who will sell them used for any less than Brownell will sell them for, especially if you use the dealer price line. About ninety bucks.

Are they available from Brownells again?
When I was last looking it seemed like they were on permanent backorder.
Is this the way to go without spending the $450 that the Hosfords/Galazans run or is there are preferable option?
I'm attempting to save my "shekels" for a couple of acquisitions, rather that $5 bills on the gauge.

Fred, the Hosford is my favorite because you can measure any bore between .500 and .800 without changing heads and it reads directly from the analog dial face without adding or subtracting hundredths and thousandths like the Skeets analog models. It is the "Cadillac" model of bore gauges and sells for around $800. The Skeets will get the job done at 1/4th to 1/8th the price but (for me) is not as fast or convenient and requires slightly more dexterity. Chubbs and Galazans are in the intermediate price range (depending on which Galazan model you are talking about). Factory digital readout gauges are generally about 4 times as expensive as the same device with an analog scale.

It really comes down to how many barrels do you plan to measure at a time and how much are you willing to pay for convenience. Which gauge guns do you plan on measuring? .410s usually require a separate arbor/gauge and 4 and 8 bore instruments are mostly custom built.

Bob: Did some research and his gauge looks to be simple to use. At this price range I would expect it to have limitations. Do you know of any? The limited gauge range may be a plus for simplicity. I'm tempted to try one to find out for myself. Bob

I only can say I have the 12-16 an like it. I also have both 12-16 and 20-28 Skeets.
The Unloader guage is of higher quality.

Just received my Bulley bore gauge. I am impressed with the quality, ability to obtain repeatable measurements, accuracy and its ease of use. I measured a couple of modern 12 and 16 bores along with two Parker 12’s and one 16 gauge.

One of the Parker 12 bores I thought to be original throughout. It is the only one I checked that has bore dimensions out of line. The nominal 0.730” dimension measures 0.753” on this hammer gun. The normal IC choke dimension patterns like an IC choke. The letter indicates its pattern as 175 pellets of #8 shot. Is it possible that the barrels left the factory with 0.753” bores?

The barrel wall thickness measures strong as seen in the attached JPEG. Any input would be appreciated. Bob

Bob, from what I've read it is possible that, depending largely on serial number or year range, it may have left Meriden with just such a bore dia.
