Clays powder in the tenner

I cant find powder... obviously. I have clays on hand and can still find it somewhat. I see SBs data has clays for 1 oz around 20 - 23 grs. Would this still be acceptable for a 1 1/8 oz load?

This came to me from another PGCA member, it was a load tested by Tom Armbrust. I would substitute an SP10 wad as they have the same or close dimensions, adjust the filler as needed to get a proper crimp.

SP10 with 1/2" 16 ga fiber
1 1/8 oz 7.5s
When I go to final crimp, I can hear the shot squishing. I dont know if thats bad or not but my crimps are coming out pretty good (see pictures). I noticed my press was wanting to put 40 lbs of wad seating pressure but I was stopping it at the 30 lb mark.

If you think the shot column is a little too tall, tear off a sliver from the 1/2" fiber wad with your thumbnail until you get it right.

I think you will find a 1/4" filler wad will give you a good crimp and not compress the load.

I tried a 1/4" (slit 1/2" in half) and the crimp was dished. That was the first on I tried. Ill try peeling a tad off the 1/2" and see what that does

What you should being trying to achieve is roughly 1/2 inch from top of the shot to the top of a new unfired hull for a folded crimp, about half as much for a roll crimp.

If your crimp is dished you need more filler or adjust your drop tube so you don't have any pressure when you seat the wad. A lot of pressure is just collapsing the cushion part of the wad and it will want to push back up after the load is complete. For me, I need a 1/2" from the top of the shot to the top of the shell for 12ga. For the 10ga I like about 5/8". Your shells look fine to me. With a slight dish the shell can't open because the petals are interlocked.
