Were Repro 12 gauges ever made with longer than 28" barrels?
Looking for at least 30", or longer.
My grown-up son shot his first 25 straight at Trap with an Ithaca NID 12, with 30" barrels, and standard field specs....He does good without the scant drop at heel, and comb of modern Trap guns.
Too bad the NID barrels split from the muzzle back 18 inches. Seems they left the factory way back in 1926 or so, without much solder on the ribs, and tubes.
Gunter Pfrommer resoldered them; but we never trusted them after that, and sold the gun to a pheasant hunter. We want to find a Repro 12, and try that.
Thanks, Grant.

I know that they only made a couple 30" sets. John Allen has one of them. SXS ohio

A friend has a 32" 12 gauge Repro. Only one I've heard of.

I have a set of 30" that I added to my SSS. A couple of years after I purchased the gun, John Allen contacted me saying that Mr. Skeuse had a set available. I sent the gun to New Jersey so the barrels could be fitted. Also exchanged the case for a two barrel case.
These 30" barrels fit well, but the forend fits a tighter than with the 28" barrels. Always wondered if any fitting work was actually done. Concerns me a little, possibly the front of the forend lug should be stoned a little?
Have not shot a box of shells through these barrels.

Before stoning the forend lug, try the fit with the forend removed. If it is still tight with the forend removed, it isn't the lug that is the problem.

Jack Skeuse told me that there were 25 30"barrel sets ordered. They were going to make a run of them, but the plant was closed before they could produce more. The set I have with the prototype steel shot special were given to me by Jack after we finished the steel shot special project.

Bill,Are you sure those are 32" barrels?I have never seen or heard of a set.I do know that the Skeuse family had a lot of prototype guns and barrels made.I just did an appraisal on the only BHE steel shot special made.I ordered it and sold it when I worked at Jaegers.

The 30" tubes fit to the frame just as well as the original 28" set. The forend then goes on very tight. Always wondered if recoil with this tight of fit would damage the gun somehow.

Terry,I agree with Bill.A light touch will a fine stone will ease the tight fit. Also,it never hurts to lube the lug lightly.Good to see you are still fooling around with these old doubles.Drop me a private email and we can talk.John

I have looked at the 32" gun and I will again. It was and is a beautiful gun that seems to have original Japanese barrels.
