Hickory Rod in Stock Wrist

Can anyone tell me during which years the Parker patent for the hickory rod in the wrist of their stocks ran? Also, was this rod used in all grades and in all gauges? Was it used to strengthen the wrist area of highly figured stocks?

Yes, it was used in guns to help prevent breaking in the wrist especially on guns with figured wood. This would tend to indicate it was used primarily on guns of a higher grade.

Patent date is Sept. 10, 1895.

I have seen the hickory Rod on guns as low as GH grade.

Some guns fitted with it had the patent date stamped in the godlike of the stock behind the grip. But not all. I would suspect that more were not marked and ones that were.

My PH pistol grip stock has the patent date. It's a 1926 gun and it didn't prevent the grip from cracking. As I recall the rod was 9/16 in diameter.

Don't underestimate the use of the rod. I had a GH in the shop not long ago that was being held together by just the rod. It does work. If you want to call it that.
