A 12 gauge GHE just appeared on the Griffin & Howe website. I was looking at the fit of the rib extension when I noticed unusual engraving at the breech end of the barrels. I also did not see the Parker Bros. legend on the rib. Any opinions on the originality of these barrels?

Those are aftermarket barrels for sure. Possibly Belgian made.

I like the wood a lot. It sure doesn't look like American Black Walnut to me, like tha vast majority of Grade 2 hammerless Parkers were fitted with.
Nothing about the barrels says "Parker" to me.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I agree Dean, that wood is alot nicer than I have seen most "G" grades. I will probably visit G&H in the next couple of weeks to check out the barrels. Any thoughts on the top lever. It looks blued but I believe all Parker top levers were case colored.

Yes. Tips lever is blued. Also not correct. Case coloring is also redone.

For a gun that has strayed so far from the pass it sure is nice looking.

Probably an ex-Damascus gun with Atlas barrels. Nice gun.

They know they have a bad gun, they priced it like it is a good gun, and hope for an uninformed customer to come along. Shame on them. They know exactly what this gun is and they did not say a word about it in the description.

Dear Bill,
I am saddened that you interpret this as a result of evil intentions. Sometimes mistakes happen - I know from experience. I had a very brief look at this gun on Tuesday and it has been re-barreled. There are proof marks on the barrels but I honestly don't recall which country. I will bring the description to the attention of the responsible parties.

So, which is it? A "Nice gun." or a "bad gun" ?

Edgar, it is a nice gun, but a bad gun for the asking price and with an incorrect description. Bob, I apologize for assuming the gun department at Griffin and Howe should have known what they had. I am perfectly willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. It's still a nice gun at the right price and with an honest description.

So I guess you mean it's a nice gun but the asking price is too high. By your definition, I've seen some that were still bad if they were free.

Edgar, We are on the way in a few moments. While I am there I will be happy to collect up all your freee guns.... Not to worry though I will return the case's.

Good point, Edgar. Some guns are no good at any price. However, the GHE at Griffin and Howe is not one of those.

It now says at the bottom of the description that it was rebarreled in Austria.

The best barrel maker I am aware of in Austria is Hambrusch. If that's who made these barrels, then you can expect top shelf quality.

I have a GH that was re barreled about 1955 in Austria. the right barrel is engraved ANTON SODIA FERLACH and the left Made In Austria. First class workmanship, fit and finish. The Parker barrels did not return with the gun.
