Thanks to Brad Bachelder this old gun really dose deserve to be posted under the thread other FINE DOUBLES. I was going to post before and after pictures But apparently I did not save the before pic's. Sorry. I guess a brief description will have to do. The wood was the best part of the old gun. It was pretty dirty and had worn checkering. Some one had drilled a hole in the locks and inserted the wrong screw as a replacement. They had hot blued the barrels and all the receiver parts. The ribs were loose and bent. The old girl needed a face lift.

Fantastic job on Brad's part. Love the Jones under lever. Would be proud to carry that in the field.

My hat's off to Bachelder on the case colours. Very "English". Almost St. Ledger style...

Finally. A US shop gets them right.

BTW... I'm sure Wayne knows that it is properly W. & C. Scott, per William and Charles Scott.

Wayne that is one beautiful 8 gauge and brads work is exemplary as always. Have you made plans to shoot her yet?

Shot it this morning. Surprisingly easy to shoot. Recoil is'nt bad with blue dot and 1 3/4oz of shot. Preformed the Dr Pepper can test. A little gun shy with the first shot. Almost missed the first can. Second can is toast.

Eldon here is a drawing of the 8ga die. See if you can make it out. You can click on it to enlarge it.

Actually that is 1/2 a thousand of an inch. The 2.00 measurement should have been 1 .750". Did'nt see that till now.

Wayne,
Did you recently pick that gun up on Gunbroker? If so, that was a really quick turnaround. Beautiful.

I bought the gun last February I think. Turn around was a very quick six months.

The one I managed to hit was about 30 paces. I know that is'nt regulation but there were too many people at the range. As for how the gun got here your guess is as good as anyone but I am sure it would make a great story. I would really like to know how much game it has taken. A friend of mine offered to take me to his turkey spot this spring if I used the 8ga. I think I will take him up on his offer.

As soon as it warms up a little I may try and pattern it. Until then it will just have to stay dry and warm in the safe.

Wayne if I'm not mistaken you have a beater 8 gauge also correct ?
I would probably keep on a safe queen and hunt with the red head step child 8 ga so to speak haha.
I'm working on buying my first 8 ga !

No point in having a dog if you cant exercise it a little.
