I have a SXS Hammer 12 guage shotgun that I suspect is knockoff. It has the Parker name on the sides of the action that looks authentic. It has very nice looking scroll engraving & very good wood to metal fit and overall, looks like a high quality gun.It does not have the Parker name & Meriden Connecticut between the barrels on the underside. The numbers on the under side of the barrels dont seem to match up to anything I have seen on various web site about Parker guns. There is A4PH & 606 and on the under side of each barrel is Choke R, the serial # is 68631. Any help or information would be greatly appreacated.

Steve,

Have you tried looking at the Parker Identification link off our main page and try to match it up to what you find there? Between that and the Parker Grades link you should be able to determine if its "one of ours".

Yes I have, the serial # suggest it was made in 1891, however the serial # is located on the left barrel, I think it should be on the watertable. As for barrel weight, mine has a 14 stamped on the barrel flats, also can't find anything at all about type of steel in the barrels on the rib. beginning to think I have a nice wall hanger.

It is my understanding (always subject to correction as I am still learning) that if the engraving reads "Parker" only, then it is not an American "Parker Bros." shotgun Could you post a few pictures?? Parker Bros. SN should be found on barrel lug, water table, forend iron, trigger guard, butt stock under the trigger guard (requires removal) forend wood (required removal of forend iron). Barrel weights are stamped in pounds and ounces with the ounce number as a superscript. In your case with 14 that would translate to one pound four ounces which is not a realistic weight.
