Any advice on where to look for a quality workhouse of a gun. Primarily, the gun will be used for Grouse and Woodcock. And maybe quail from time to time. And equally as important, where not to look? I like the classics but am not totally objecting to the idea of a reproduction. Just need some guidance from you guys. Anyone have any advice to offer?

Hi Steve,
Most of us have made mistakes in our earlier Parker purchases but if you stick around this web forum you'll learn quite a lot.
It isn't easy to put all the good advice in a nutshell - there are so many pitfalls. But there are so many rewards out there you should be able to do pretty well on your first Parker.
There's nothing wrong with a Repro either. I prefer the 28 ga. Repros for grouse and woodcock but you may want a 20 ga. if you want a repro at all. I will say that the 28 ga. Repro is a great carry gun for those hunts that last more than a few hours. And it handles more like an original Parker (in my opinion) than the 20 or 12 Repros.
If you would prefer an original Parker, my advice is to look around in gun shops that may carry a fair supply of classic American guns, attend gun shows that may have some vendors who sell these old guns. Finally, watch gunbroker. com or Guns International or Guns America.
Tell us where you live and maybe somebody in your area will give you pointers or take you to a few gun shows.
Good Luck

Thank you very much for the guidance. I live in Richmond, Va. Not too many gun show around that carry quality goods. I am scouting the web sites with some success (or at least generating interest). Any opinions / advice on choke set ups? I am looking at a gun now that has open chokes. Thinking that this may be effective in dense woods, etc. but not so effective in open terrain.

One thing to watch out for is a gun that has open chokes may have had the barrels cut back thereby eliminating most or all of the original choke. It takes a practiced eye to be able to determine if the barrels have been cut. Not that there is anything espeially wrong with cut barrels because such a gun will serve the purposes of someone like you who wants open chokes. Just remember that such a gun will have lost a great deal of its collector value, so don't be taken and pay too much for such a gun. There are some Parkers that were made with open chokes but Parkers predominantly had relatively tighter chokes.
We have a number of members in Virginia and maybe someone there will read this and offer his assistance.
