Anyone seen a case like this? I bought it and it doesn't seem like a gun case. Both ends open and have a padlock. Pretty cool but looks more like a pool cue or fishing rod case than a gun case. It's divided inside and I don't think the larger compartment would fit any gun over the size of a .410 maybe. Will fit 32" bbls...

I've seen gun cases that look like that one on the outside but your description of the inside is rather puzzling.

Richard, without more detailed photos, I can't be sure. However, the basketweave tooling is indicative of an H H Heiser case from Denver. Heiser cases are so marked someplace on them. The small compartments and length are indicative of a multiple rod fishing rod case where rod tubes are slipped into the compartments.

The general double ended style is called an Elliott case. Red Head also made Elliott cases, but Heisers are higher quality.

I admire Heiser leather and have been looking for a couple years, if you are not committed to it and if it is marked Heiser.

Best,
Bruce

Richard, send pictures of the open ends. I will look in my Heiser catalogs for evidence of Heiser manufacture. However, I have seen similar basket weave patterns on completely unmarked cases.

I have a gun case like that. It is divided into two sections, one for the barrels and one for the stock. Mine has a free floating divider attached only at one end, I put the barrels in and adjust the divider close to the barrels and that makes room for the stock. The divider on mine has a "pocket" to hold a cleaning rod. Mine measures (outside) 34X8X3.5 inches.

This is a case for a single barrel trap gun or, more likely, a pump gun. I say this because I've sold a number of them over the years and have had several returned because the guys thought they were for SxSs. You may be able to fit a .410 SxS in it but depending on the width of the breech maybe not. And the 32" length is another giveaway that it is a case for a repeater. The basketweave effect is a nice decorative touch but was not unique to any one maker. Rod cases are never that deep from top to bottom; the A&F flyrod cases I've sold are not half that height (depth) from top to bottom.

The divider is fixed, parallel lengthwise to the case, and does not leave enough room for buttstock unless it was very very small, if at all. There is a "pocket" attached to one side of the inside divider that's about half the length of the case and would maybe hold a 2-pc cleaning rod?? There's just not enough room for a buttstock. If the divider was loose it would I think. No makers mark of any kind on it. It would definitely make an awesome fishing rod case for nice old bamboo rods in flannel bags.... 32.5" x 25/8" x 8" outside dimensions. Maybe it would hold a flat stocked .410 skeet single bbl skeet gun??

Whoa! Mr Robin L....thank you. the divider is indeed hinged at one end so it is a gun case after all. I'll have to see what I have that might fit. I suspect that a repeater would fit best given the length, but if my 32" hammer fits, it has a new home...

Hmmm... won't actually take 32" bbls. 31.5" max. Definitely has plenty of room for a shorter gun. I slid a 26" gun in and everything fit fine but the stock end has way too much room to slide around of course. I'd vote for a pump gun case as Kevin says... mystery solved I think.

I have a couple of cases like that that are for Remington Model 11/Sportsman or Browning A5 autoloaders.

I think the autoloaders or a pump gun would be a perfect fit for this thing. Too much room for the butt of a dbl gun to move around. I doubt I'll find a good use for it as all I have are dbl guns...

Just send it my way Richard, I've got a D grade Model 11 that I bet would go right in there. *wink*

You want it Destry, it's yours. I don't have a gun for it. If no one wants it I'll try to return it, but would like to give the forum crowd first shot... $175 + shipping. Speak soon or it goes back if I can make it happen... If I paid too much someone should tell me so I can return it pronto...

Rich,

You can just store it at my house with my Browning Sweet 16 in it. I am still planning on coming your way on the 26th and 27th for RGS see you then.

I have the same case only in a leg o mutton style. It came with a Win. 1886 TD . I also use it for a Win. 1897 BD Trap gun. It is too narrow for even my smallest sxs. I'll post a pic if you like. Paul D.
