Hevi shot repro

Hearing more about hardness of heavy shot and looked at a quality turkey choke that was blown out by it the other night. Does anyone use it in I their repro? How about the classic double version? I'm a bit shy of it although I love it in my modern duck guns.

i ve shot a few hevi shot out of my ithaca mag ten and a lc smith long range with no problems they are full choike guns but not extra full... charlie

I would only use the Classic Doubles version in a repro or original Parker. The real Hevi-shot is tungsten, nickel, and iron. That has to be rough on a barrel that is thinner than the pipes they build on modern autos and pumps.

Even shooting Hevi-shot in a modern gun you must use one of the original factory tubes or a Hevi-shot designed turkey tube. These are about .010 or more less constriction than lead turkey tubes.

I'll bet they were using a really tight lead tube for the Hevi-shot. I've got some lead choke tubes at .665. That is very tight, too tight for large Hevi-shot.

It's hard stuff, but not as hard as steel. Any gun that can handle steel can handle hevi-shot. A better choice if you can find it is the Winchester Extreme Xtended. When it first came out is was supposed to be ok in old guns because it was softer then hevi-shot. Winchester then backed off of that statement a bit. It however would be fine in a Parker Repro with modern steel barrels. They quit making it a couple of years ago, but you find it at a lot of old gun shops. I used it in a Parker 2 frame 12 gauge to turkey hunt for a few years and patterns were ungodly good. I decided to quite using it because I didn't feel like shooting 1.5 oz out of a 110 year old gun was a good thing. Was more worried about the stock head then the barrels or frame. That thing was a tank. Sold it to a Maine duck hunter because I decided I didn't want to carry around an almost 8 lb shotgun into the turkey woods anymore.

It's not recommended shooting steel through any Parker Repro choked tighter than Modified. Please read the 2nd full paragraph in the right side column of the attached link for verification:

Steel yes, steal no :nono: (except not through full choke, as Wild Skies said).
