Guys/gals, for those who reload, what kind of prices are you paying just for powder? PB and 7625 are my main powders. If you use those, what are you paying per pound? How about for 8 pound cans?

I saw 5 1 lb bottles of 7625 at a recent gun show @$27/bottle--almost bought all of it even though I don't use it--figured I could sell it to friends (no profit)
Saw 8 lb of PB at Buckeye Outdoors near Columbus, OH last weekend @ $169.
You do know that both are being discontinued.

You do know that both are being discontinued.

IMR 7625, 4756, and PB are being re-branded as Hodgen.

PB has already been rebranded as Hodgdon. An 8 pounder I got last month had a mfg lot date of 1/23/2014 and was labeled "Hodgdon" - with no mention of "IMR" as in the past. It also was labeled "Made in Canada" ..... no doubt made at the former IMR Powder plant that's now owned/operated by General Dynamics.

But has anyone seen 7625 or 4756 in containers that were labeled Hodgdon and not IMR? I haven't.

Of the three named (PB, 7625 and 4756) I personally believe PB probably had/has the highest demand. Could it be that Hodgdon relented on discontinuing PB but is going forward with its plans to discontinue marketing 7625 and 4756?

Good question Chromax.... I know for pistol powders for example Hodgon HP38 and Winchester 231 are exactly the same and have identical recipes and ballistics.

i have been paying low $20s for the small bottles of the 7625, 4756, and PB when i went looking for them a few weeks back -

got a call last week from a shop where I was on a waiting list for 7625 - said he got one in - i could have it for 38 bucks - told him to keep it.

In regards to the discontinuation of PB . . . I certainly hope it's simply a rebranding. My understanding, however; is that Hodgdon is continuing its production through 2014 and then phasing it out near the end of the year. I hope I'm wrong as it has been for decades my pet powder for low pressure reloads. I recently bought an 8 lb. keg of PB for $169 plus tax and a 5 lb. container of it for a little less per pound as it was NOS (2003 or earlier mfg. date) in a discontinued size offering.

I paid $32 for 7625 and 4756 and $24 for PB about 2 weeks ago. The shop only had 5 1lb jugs of each.

Red Dot and Blue Dot are my favorites---and they are also getting almost impossible to find. Will there be any supplies available for sale at the Southern?

I heard the PB and 7625 were being discontinued too. I especially hope the PB isn't!!

We get PB for 152/8lbs and 7625 for 154/8lbs. It's what I used to use , but shooting so much it got out of price. Promo is 84/8lbs, or even 700x at 107/8lbs is much more reasonable.

Went to a gun show and paid $26.95 for 20/28. He had everything priced at the same price. Next table over, same prices. Price fixing?

700X was an affordable powder for a long time. It's now pretty scarce up here. When you can find it the cost is $150+ for an 8 lber. A local shop had 35 of them delivered. They were all sold within 24 hours!!

I picked up a bunch of PB 8 lbers and they were all labeled "Hodgdon". Hoping that's a good sign!

I would say the fact retail prices for bulk powder did not rise exponentially to meet the huge surge in demand for it has contributed greatly to the shortages we see on the shelves. It's economics 101, when supply can't meet demand, price goes up and the price going up tempers the demand. What is better, powder at what one is used to paying but hard if not impossible to find, or plentiful powder at a higher price? I guess that depends on how much you can find. If demand does not temper and production capacity remains the same, a fairly sharp increase in price should be expected.
