Need advise on how to clean frame

I'm looking at a Parker that appears to have 75% CCH but it is very difficult to tell because of what some my call patina and others my call grime. To me it is more like grime and takes anyway for the nice overall appearance of the gun.

I cleaned it with Hopppes. That got rid of the easy to remove dirt. Then I soaked patches with Hoppes, let it sit awhile, and that began to reveal a lot of the CCH but I know there is more under the remaining grime.

I don't want to use something like Flitz because I'm afraid it will cut too far. I don't want to polished it; just get the grime of. Will someone share their magic potion with me? Thx, Ray

I have used Frontier Pads after hearing of them on this board. Last Sterlingworth I just cleaned up had a rusted not just patina frame. I used the pad and Ballistol. The little CCH it had was not hurt. I tried the same procedure on a Damascus barrels and some pattern was lost ( I probably was over aggressive.

Along with Hoppe's No. 9, try bronze wool and brass bristled brushes. I use toothbrush-sized brushes available at my local hardware store. Any remaining finish, or real patina, will remain unscathed.

I hope people are removing the stock when attempting to clean the frame with any of these solvents if they hope to retain the original finish.
