Help with 8 ga

I'm looking at a T4 DH 8ga with 36" barrels. Wood And barrels are 90%+. CCH is about 60%. I don't have any photos. How many DH with T4s barrels were made? Can I have your opinions on a fair value? Thx

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a T4 Parker would be a Grade 4 (CH) with Titanic Steel barrels.

A very valuable Parker, presuming it to be in the condition you report.

It sounds like the gun Steve Barnett had on display at last falls Vintage Cup. If it is the same gun it is VERY nice! He didn't have it prices at the time since he was still negotiating with the consignor. Where are you going to find another one??

Ray, assuming the gun is as you described and has no damage (bad screws, pitted bores, engraved social security numbers, cut stock or barrels and non original butt treatment) a dealer would probably "ask" $20,000 or more. Actual selling price probably between $12,000 and $18,000. Hope this helps.

I found out this fella has two 8 ga's! The other is a top lever hammer gun in the 36000 SN range. Grade 2. It has Damascus barrels but it looks like someone hit them with steel wool and they are completely sliver in color. The frame looks recolored. Stocks refinished but checkering nice and original. Overall, a real nice gun but not as high condition as the DH. Can I get an idea of the value of this gun too. Neither are really for sale but I'd like to make him an offer.

Sorry I haven't been able to post photos. The fella in kind of funny about about it and I don't want to push it.

i would say the hammer gun 8 would be in the 6500 to 7500 range..charlie

Ray: Titanic Steel would be the correct inscription for a DH Grade Hammerless. Do all SNs match?

Ray, I would say Charlie is probably right. Only caveat is the condition of the frame and hammers after recoloring. If they were recased, warpage could have occurred so check.

Ray, I think the prices that you are seeing are a little low. The last DH fluid steel 8 ga that I know of sold for a little north (mid north) of 20K and it had no case color, just something to think about. Eric

I can offer a very simple, yet accurate way to determine value. If I wanted to buy it, in rough shape, it would trade hands in one phone call at $25K. If I had it for sale, in mint shape, it would take 8 months to sell and bring $2K. The market is a fickle mistress.

Everybody thinks that because you have a gun for sale that you're destitute and need to sell it quickly. In most cases, nothing could be farther from the truth. The Members Only For Sale forum of our own website is a prime example of this mode of thinking.... but the people who continuously keep lowering their prices are just as much to blame.

A DH 8 gauge in pretty good condition sold last year for $12-13,000. One of the more reputable dealers had it.

It's a funny thing about Parkers that guns with composite barrels, all else being equal--grade and condition--sell for about the same price as steel barreled guns EXCEPT 8s. Has to do with production numbers and availability. If my old mind is remembering right, Parker made about 400 8s, but only around 20 were steel barreled guns.
