Greetings from New Hampshire. I recently bought a 1919 16 gauge Trojan serial number 186773. It has a number #1 frame. I am trying to find any information on the gun. It has 26" barrels with a space at the end (I assume barrels were not cut). It is choked IM & strong full.
There are two marks on the barrels that I have not seen. One is a small "R" and the other looks like an "X" on the lug where the fore end attaches to the barrel. I am wondering if the "R" indicates it was sent back to the factory for a repair?
I bought it to hunt with and the gun has great feel. I shoot sporting clays competitively and I am just starting to get into vintage guns. NSCA #553867. I have a Winchester 12 ga Model 23 heavy duck that I shoot in competitions. Thinking I might pick up a another Parker 12 ga. 30" for the Vintager. Are there any models or characteristics preferred or competitive clay shooting?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

welcome Matthew
nice find, the number is not in the serialization book,, but with the space and the chokes- I would guess its original. There are records available for a letter for that number.
the Remington repair codes would have a year and a month code

There are surviving records sufficient for you to get a research letter. With your gun, it may just give you the basic specs on your gun that you can compare with what you have to see if it is original. If you join PGCA, you can get research letters for $40, plus a lot of other benefits.
All of that aside though, sounds like you have a great gun that will give you lots of fun if you get out and shoot it

Hi Matthew! Welcome to the PGCA Forum.
I owned a 16 gauge Trojan with 26" barrels and reluctantly sold it to my brother-in-law. He still has it and we hunt together in Vermont from October 1st through the end of November. I still get to admire that little Trojan whenever we get together. You've got a great Parker there!
The "X" on the forend lug is typical of the Trojan but I can't say I remember the "R" as being stamped on the one I had. Maybe you could show us a picture of the stamp and it might jog some memories.
Here's a picture of my brother-in-law Jamie and his Trojan after a successful morning in Vermont.

Welcome aboard Matthew. Sounds like you got a nice Parker there. Noticing that you live in NH and like to shoot SC, you should come down to the NE Parker Fun Shoot at Addieville East Farm April 12th.

Tell us about your scarce Model 23. What have you done to make the choking more friendly?

I bought the Winchester 23 heavy duck three years ago. Great find and it shoots very well. Came in third at the 2012 Vintagers with a 47 in the american gun category. When I got it, the gun was choked Mod/Mod. I left it that way. Before shooting that gun I was a constant choke changer. Since then I have gone to a Perazzi MX2000S with fixed chokes Mod/IMod for sporting clays.
IMHO chokes are over rated.I think of chokes the way I think of game improvement clubs in golf. With open chokes you can get away with more. Nothing like a tight choke to smooth out your move and mount.
