Hello,

Not really a Parker collector or fan. Would love to be, just can't afford them :)

Reason I joined is I'm trying to find more information on a friends gun. he is dying of cancer and I'm helping his family thin his gun collection a bit.

From what I can tell it's a 20 Ga VH made in 1901, by the looks of it I would say it has been refinished, but a very good job all engraving and lettering is very sharp.

I've got a couple of local guys looking at it that are very interested, but the one concern is the barrel length. It's 24 1/2". Chokes measure Skeet and Cylinder. So they are very concerned that it has been cut off for some reason.

I'll try to get some pictures up tomorrow.

Tom, while we are waiting for pics, do you have a serial number for us to check? Thanks, Russ

Hi Tom,

That looks like a nice Parker. It is on the desirable "0" frame as indicated on the barrel lug.

The case colors are cyanide with buffing line at the bottom of the breach balls typical of the DelGregos. Parker Brothers guns were produced with bone charcoal case coloring which produced different colors/patterns. Both processes hardened the external surfaces of the receiver.

The cut barrels take away any collector value. Personally I figure a Parker with cut barrels is worth only half of a similar gun with uncut barrels. Others will certainly have differing opinions.

Since this is a 0 frame 20 gauge it is desirable as a shooter/hunting gun.

If you desire to sell this gun via this forum you must become a member of the PGCA ($40 annually). Sorry but we must reserve some privileges for PGCA members.

Good luck,
Mark

Tom;
Your gun is listed as having 28" barrels when it left the factory. Very nice 20ga. If you become a member of the PGCA you can send for a letter which might give you some more info on this gun. Good luck and sorry to hear about your friend.

Understand I can't sell it here unless I join, so I'm not looking for offers.

With cut barrels I have a guy locally offering me $3,000. He was the one that measured the choke and was concerned the barrels were cut. Is that a fair price? He's looking for a quail gun and the more open chokes don't bother him.

Tom,

In my opinion, for what it's worth on small bore Parkers, that is a fair price. It is certainly more than I'd pay! But then I collect big bore guns...

I do have a 16 gauge CE Fox with a set of 22" cut barrels. Those barrels have proven to be absolutely wicked on woodcock and pheasant!

Tom,

In my opinion, for the family's benefit you had better go find that buyer today before he gets away.

Thanks for the advice. He's one of the regular skeet shooters at our club. I've got someone getting me his number now.
