A few weeks back I was sitting in my Gun Room ,Man Cave which ever you prefer and decided ,it is a shame to have the guns I enjoy the most hiding away in a gun safe tucked neatly away in cases where even the owner " ME " can't ever enjoy just looking at them ! I mentioned this fact to my Wife and she suggested a small change in furniture placement and making a display area so I could enjoy looking at my guns while I was in my Room at my computer etc. ! Shopping we went and I came away with an inexpensive but I think very nice piece of furniture for the job ,it has space inside ,for TPS , Dbl. Gun journals ,Parker Pages and a few random Books and Brass Shells and Misc.Parker items and Gun Related stuff ,then on the top ,I can place a Cased Parker Gun on the top and enjoy having it out to ogle over it on occasion ,I intend to change guns once a week ,now the problem is I'll need a few more to fill in the blanks for the rest of the weeks of the year ! Just thinking if any of you other fellows have a similar set up ,might be fun to take a look at them !

Very nice Russ. I see you must play the guitar. I do also. Maybe we will have to get together for a little jam/ parker BS session.

My gun room is a mess:eek: what with a month plus of bird hunting there are shells, clothes, dog equipment everywhere. Now add in deer season and the number of boots on the floor has doubled and there are rifles leaning against open drawers (so they don't fall down) reloading equipment and assorted paraphenalia scattered everywhere. I looked for a pair of gloves for over a week, even contacted the people I hunted with to see if I left them in their truck....I found them in a pair of hunting boots I hadn't worn:shock:

Russ your gun room looks very nice...but it lacks that used look:rotf: Maybe I should post a couple of pics of mine to give you a goal:rotf::rotf::rotf:

Seriously my one New Years resolution is to clean and reorganize:whistle:

Russ Jackson
11-29-2013, 11:31 AM
Rich ,Would love to see it in any condition ,mine was so bad last week ,I spent most of the day straightening up the mess and tossing and putting away ! My Lovely Wife says , Wow ,now isn't that much nicer ,I guess it is but I can't find anything ,just the gun on top of the new cabinet :rotf:!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a library, which doubles as a guest bedroom, a gun room, a loading room, and a bit of gun and book storage in the family room. The library usually has a few guns leaning up in corners for study and research. Linda wants a new house, soon.

todd allen
12-01-2013, 01:01 PM
I don't have a dedicated "Gun Room", per se, but have a dedicated reloading room in the basement. I would post pictures, but then everyone would know how unorganized, and sloppy I can be. My wife tolerates this level of clutter in this one room only!
That said, the whole house is basically a "Gun Room".

Charlie, who's that sleeping in the cage?

charlie cleveland
12-01-2013, 03:26 PM
thats the famous tropy i won shooting the 70 step champion ship..they awarded me the can with the most hits ever at 70 steps..there was 7 holes put in this can by a smithand wesson auto of my dads useing 3 inch remington nitro turkey loads no 5 shot... the critter living in the cage is the parker loving guinea pig named wilbur... in herited from a daughter whose allergic to the pig..so you see anything can wind up in your gun room... charlie

Russ, Linda is willing to live with me in the same house as long as there is a very large "stuff room", preferably separated from the main house. A very large car and motorcycle room, also separated from the main house, is also a requirement. She doesn't mind the guns so much, but she would prefer that she never see the cars and motorcycles at all. She sees a Harley Davidson as immediate death in my present physical condition. She sees cars and trucks with more than 400 cubic inches under the hood as slow, although not immediate, death. I am doomed.

I had arrived home one evening after working late to find serving platters, with Sterno heaters ,residing on my work bench in the man cave (as I was late for the holiday festivities). It was at this point I had the realization what had to be done.... :nono:. In the following days my loving Wife explained to me how things become inadvertently locked and the pros and cons of such hasty decisions... I guess a crock pot and hoppes #9 aren't that bad after all..:bigbye:

I just got in from running errands it's -24 with the wind:eek: My truck hasn't been started in a couple of weeks so I thought I'd better give her a try and she cranked right up.

I picked up the 32 inch 16ga hammer gun from the smith as I had 3/8th taken off the comb, no need to float the target now. The rifle project will go out for case colour next week so thats finally coming to a close.

Off to load some more 16's to prepare for the season, shoot some imaginary birds with the hammergun just to get the feel of the lower stock, go to Namibia hunting dangerous game with a good book and enjoy a little Buffalo Trace. All in all it's going to be a great afternoon.

I hunt in the piedmont portion of GA which runs across GA from a little North of Atlanta across the state south of Macon. Native populations of quail decline has stabilized, but quail populations are still low. When I was very young I remember responding to quail with the bob white whistle for hours. If you answered, they would answer. As kids we did this until dusk. Rarely do I hear the bobwhite whistle in the late afternoon now. I am grateful for pen birds because a small percentage do survive in the wild. I really do not know the reasons for quail declines in the south.

Rich Anderson
01-25-2014, 07:42 PM
I really do not know the reasons for quail declines in the south.

I would think the suspects are A) Loss of habitat, B) use of insecticides for crops C) increased predation.

Harryreed
01-25-2014, 08:06 PM
I think you are correct Rich. I do know that when some of our leases have been clear-cut for timber and re-planted. The years when the new seeding are several inches high until they are ten foot high quail populations explode. Then after the pines grow larger the quail population disappears. Farming in GA has changed from a collection of small family farms to large operations. With the loss of cutover areas and natural boundaries the quail have declined.

Mills Morrison
01-26-2014, 01:07 PM
The wild quail population in my area of Georgia and SC is abysmal. There are lots of opinions about why it happened, but the longer you listen the more you realize nobody really knows. Hopefully they will come back one day.

When I first moved into my present home in Lexington, South Carolina @ 30 years ago there were at least 3 large coveys of wild Bob White quail in the 150 acre pasture behind my house. Today there are none. I don't know why either!

In every sense of the word, a cave. Complete with artwork and the best gun collection you'll ever see (or not) I was lucky to see it, but I had an inside contact.

The Army will have quite a task to match this museum --

From what I understand from the video, the Army Museum will be built on Fort Belvoir. Another important military museum is in the planning stages just a few miles down the road. That will be three major military museums within a ten mile distance. The "other" museum is the "Museum of Americans in Wartime", to be built on 70 acres close to the Marine Corps Museum. It will include at least part of the Allan Cors tank collection, a major running collection now housed a bit west of I-95..

I think the Army could rival any branch based on the shear volume of their collection, but I would have thought West Point might have made a better setting.
The Imperial War Museum in London ranks at the top of my list for the lasting impression it left.

Well I'm back in a state of dissrepair or terminal clutter so to speak. i can't load a shell if my life depended on it and it took 20 min of moving stuff around just to get to the guns I listed for sale recently. All of this goes to the greater good however as after 8 years my basement (enlarged Man Cave) will be finished off and suitable for living.

The pigs are flushed from heavy cover by a pair of Jack Russell terriers and shot on the run using a Parker GHE 16ga with Heavy Shot....:rotf::rotf:

Actually I shot the Warthog using a custom built 416 Taylor and a 400gr Swift A Frame.

I'm late to the game on this thread, it's the first time I've opened it up for some reason. Great pictures here guys, really some impressive spaces. Essentially (being an old bachelor) my entire home is a gun room. I have been slowing turning the spare bedroom into my "Scout Room" to house my collection of that sort of memorabilia. This is a terrible picture taken with my ancient flip phone but you'll get the idea of where I'm heading.

The new gun room is all done, not a real big space, but cozy enough
(15'x13'6") quite empty right now though, so a picture of my newly made gun cabinet will have to suffice for now (still lacking the felt backing...I'll get around to it sooner than later hopefully:rolleyes:). Currently holding a few Parkers, Ithaca's, Lefever's, Beretta and Browning doubles, amongst other makes/models/action styles. Sorry if the picture is a bit dark, the lighting in the room is a little dull at the moment, and didn't want to use a flash.

Thank you kindly, but I can't take credit for the carpentry work itself, it was my design, measurments, etc... But a friend/co-worker requested the chance to build it for me, so I took him up on the offer, and don't regret it! He would have had the felt backer in place during construction, but he became tied for time with other responsibilities, so I told him that I would look after it down the road.

And yes, that's a Ruger No. 1 Tropical Stainless in 375 H&H. The couple semi's you might see ( one or two are hidden by the frame) are Browning Auto 5's, a mint 20 gauge and a light twelve, along with a newer 20 gauge Browning Silver, and a couple run of the mill rifles / .22's.

Some fine rooms, but also the glimpse of some fine guitars, I am ashamed that I do not play more, I have my dads Gibson, Called Nashville to inquire about it, seems it was made between 1918-1922, I looked inside the box seems as though there is some writing do not know what it says need to get a light and a glass to see, he played on the radio in the 30's with a group called the Carolina Boys I think, He is long gone and taught me to play, what little I know is from him, I also have a Les Paul in the closet that has not been out of its case in several years, the Amp probably has a mouse home in it, just kidding, I think there is a Yamaha hiding in the closet too! Box guitars for for country, and electric for a little rock, just me Chet Atkins was my favorite, in country Clapton for rock, Gary

I have been having a hard time keeping up on my reading, and have stopped watching most television because I started back playing the guitar. I am trying to learn to play classical style guitar and am really enjoying it. I always was a finger picker but this is really a workout. Now when I go back to playing James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, etc, it seems so much easier. A good friend asked me if I wanted a guitar, and I said sure. I had been helping him move with my truck. Turns out, it was a beautiful Ibanez dreadnot from the early 1970's that was such a direct knock-off of the Gibson that they were sued over it. Many were destroyed by cutting off their necks when they were seized coming into the country--They are called "lawsuit guitars" on the internet. A former Chet Atkins award winning guitar player who lives here loves it ( Martin makes a special run of guitars named after him-Roger Hoard).
It plays much easier than my old 1972 Yamaha FG 160. So, I am enjoying it but sure wished I hadn't stopped playing 20 years ago

I'm with you Gary on Clapton very possibly being the most well-versed guitar player today but Stevie Ray ties him in blues and rock in my opinion.

Chet Atkins was a fabulous country player but there were so many excellent country players I just can't choose...

Back to gun rooms... I too like looking around in those pictures of folks' gun rooms to see what else is lurking in the shadows or out in full display.

He's got to get away from that "dut-dut-daaa" that he puts in there all through his 'exercise' of cute stuff. I'd like to hear him play something real or compose his own work.
Not bad though for a beginner... He'll get there someday.

The lord works in mysterious ways. I was all set for a long planned trip to Pulaski for the steelhead run. Best fishing buddy gets sick and I'm totally bummed about making the trip alone. Low and behold water level us 3800 CFS and about (not totally) unfishable. End result is I didn't go, cut my losses, got my reloading done and the man cave is impeccable.

Not in the same company with Hendrix, Clapton or Vaughn but Dwayne Allman and Dickie Betts had some great performances (Jessica to name one).

As Dean said back to gun rooms. I'm looking for ideas. I especially like the gun cabinet that William has but would be afraid to leave meaningful guns out of the safes. Maybe something to display vintage cases and easily replaceable guns and rifles? Bob

We have alway s done fairly well there (Salmon River) and did catch fish at 3000 CFS in the past (recommend a life jacket) but as this year taught us sometimes you can fish and sometimes not. I've hit it in horrendous cold and windy weather, but one or two big fish and a picture or two makes it worth it. There will be other days. It truly is a world class fishery right now but I get the sense that it can still be a fragil system. There was a fish kill of unknown origin this year so I tend to try and get there while it lasts.
The most memorable fish I ever hooked there(and kissed goodbye) jumped over a big downed tree in the river, smashed through the dead branches on the other side right after I said "I'd better keep him away from that tree" and left a burned image in my mind forever.

Dean Romig

Eric Grims
04-17-2015, 07:28 PM
Dean, I don't know. It came up in a discussion today with a description of the signs on the river that warned of such. I have pretty much fished the fly fishing catch and release are but in passing through the lower River and the upper parts of the whole River I have not seen a warning sign but that's not to say it still is not an issue.

away from the gun room yet- but there is a growing summer fishery on the Salmon River

summer steelhead (Skamania strain) and a small but hopefully growing return on the Atlantic Salmon stocking efforts -

there is a spey gathering there in June
