How do they know for sure it's a 14 gauge? The line between that and a 16 is very very fine, particularly on brass shell type chambers such as this one would be.

Robin Lewis owns the first 16 bore that Parker Bros. ever made - a much later lifter gun (a B-Grade) so that T-Latch can't be a 16.

There are no records from that era, nobody really knows for sure Dean. To say something like that is an absolute fact is similar to splitting up the words assume into it's various parts.

You read the auctioneer's description and I read the auctioneer's description so you and I know the same things about this Parker. I certainly have no idea if it is a 14A or a 14B and I doubt the auctioneer knows either but he sounds like he knows his stuff but maybe you'll call him and ask for yourself. All I know at this point is I'm not gonna get the "Shack Nasties" over it - how 'bout you?

That gun is in pretty good shape for a gurl of her age I'd say. The wood looks great... A little short on DAH for me though.... can't be more than 4" is it? I could shoot my one 14ga shell through it and then I'd be done.

I agree with Rich; it looks pretty good as t latches go. A few days of bore and chamber measurements and study may determine the gauge and chambering. The T latch market is pretty thin; this might be a good opportunity for a serious collector.

I'd imagine they're decarbonized steel barrels, somebody who didn't know much would think they were fluid steel.

Ed Muderlak informs me that ALL Parker T-Latch guns were chambered for the 12B brass shell ... The confusion occurs because 12B brass shells just happen to be the same diameter as 14 gauge paper shells ... But the 14 gauge came about AFTER the T-Latch gun had been discontinued ... 12B shells are smaller in diameter than the 12A ... But the 12A paper shell is the same diameter as and modern day 12 gauge paper and plastic shells.

I'll be curious to see how much this gun goes for today. They have a LOT of firearms up for auction today and some real keepers. There's a nice looking ghe12 and a B grade that has upgraded engraving to A grade. Very nice looking gun. Everything from civil war muskets to Winchester .22's to Colt National Match autos. Lots of quality guns.

The "first Parker gun" as described in Johnson, was further described as a 14 gauge, even on the museum tag. When examined by those who know about such things, it was found to be a 12 gauge gun.

Hammer price was $3,000,00 on one bid from someone in the crowd ... Only two people interested in bidding ... The guy in the crowd and me on the phone ... I didn't bid because it's a NOT a 14 gauge ... It's a 12B ... Ed Muderlak informs me that ALL T-Latch guns were chambered for 12B brass shells ... And while 12B and 14 gauge shells are the same diameter the 14 gauge didn't come out until the T-Latch gun was out of production ... I already have a pretty nice 12B T-Latch so I didn't need a $3,000 .00 duplicate
