Regarding a VH shooter: Has anyone lengthened/polished the forcing cones? Does it have an appreciable effect on recoil with 1 oz. loads?

Brian:
It is wise not to lengthen your VH forcing cones unless there is good physical reason to do so... and the barrels measure enough wall thickness to make the process safe.
In addition, you would not notice much if any recoil reduction afterward. If you desire less "kick" then try 7/8 or 3/4 oz loads for what I assume is a 12-bore. If you don't reload, then go to the RST website for their ammo choices. The simple physics of the matter are that the weight and velocity of the ejecta effect recoil. Not the forcing cone.
Bottom line: It's best to "lighten your load" ...not alter your gun.

Kearcher lengthened the chambers to 2 3/4 inch and lengthened and polished the forcing cones when he reblued the barrels of my Father's old 1902 vintage 12-gauge 2-frame VH-Grade duck gun. Can't say that I've preceived any difference at all in recoil.

I have messed with lengthening forcing cones a various shotguns. I found no difference in recoil in any of them, but I can say that some (not all) did pattern better afterwards.

Thanks to all. I prefer to leave things as they came from Parker.

I paid cash for a new 2010 Toyota 4 Runner with money I had saved on barrel raping. I expect the 4 Runner will outlive me unless I save enough on barrel raping to buy another one. At the rate people are messing with their barrels, I may save enough to pay cash for a 2017 model.

If I can leave my guns alone for a few more years, I may spring for a motor home with the savings.
