I've had this gun sitting in the safe for a few years. When it came to me, it had been cold-blued, and the wood was spray painted with some sort of finish, that never really dried. I gave the man 200 bucks for it, and brought it home. I completely dismantled it, and stripped all of the finish off.
Here's what I got. Wondering what the next step should be. I'm thinking refinish the bbls, and let it go at that. The gun is actually in pretty good shape, good bores, all matching numbers, etc. 0 frame, 28" bbls, DHBP. It retains it's original chokes, and crushes doves like a ball-peen hammer.
It is, at this point, just a shooter, so I'm not worried about value, but I don't want to put a lot of money in it. I would love to have the bbls refinished, if that's not too pricey. Oh, and serial number is 72105

Send it to Brad Bachelder and don't look back....I just got back my grade 2 12ga that he did a full refinish....it looks so close to new again....I just like looking at it. Brad did a wonderfull job on that 1884 shotgun...(-: Now Im a real Parker collector/shooter guy! That old gun brought down a crow with a 7 1/2 target load at 45-50yards the very first shot I ever fired with it! The crow got past me and was fleeting fast...I hit the rear trigger down it came......I like that old gun!

gun looks fine as is...you did a nice job on the wood...no need to do any thing else cosmetic to it... have it checked by a smith and then if found safe, get some low pressure loads from rst or polywad and take it to the skeet range...have noticed, 7 1/2's seem to work best in these old guns, at least for me.
and, 16 gauge parker hammer guns rarely come to market...should you decide to sell it, contact me via private message for appraisal...meantime, enjoy this fine old gun!

Thanks Ed, and Kenny. I sent a PM off this morning re: refinishing the bbls. I think a proper finish on the bbls. will really set off the beauty of this gun, and cannot possibly hurt the value.
I have already put a couple of boxes of RSTs thru it, and am still alive.
BTW, years ago, back in the early days of the PGCA, I wrote an article on this gun, and how I ended up with it. I will see if I can dig that up.
It all started at a pigeon shoot, . . .

Okay, here's the plan. I talked to Brad today, and I'm going to have the bbls. done. I'm not going to do the receiver, because I actually like the color it is now. I am going to have the stock bent upward, a little, and have the hook re-welded with the SS process that Brad uses.
I can't send it off right yet, because the money is going to come out of a project my wife and I are working on, and spending money is still a little tight, but I want to have this little gun ready for dove season.

I'll get some good pics, both before and after. I know it's just a lowly P-Grade, but I am addicted to Damascus/Twist bbls, and this little gun is a jewel. With the combination of frame size, weight, and bbl lengths, it handles like a custom two piece cue stick.

Looks a lot like my 12. It needs a buddy!

I agree on the barrels. I know Brad does excellent work, but so does Bill Schwarz. Bill may be a little more affordable and I know he's faster. I would highly recommend him as an affordable alternative.

Threads on 0 framed, lightened recivers, in any grade, are timeless.
The gun I used to refer to as 'The Gun From Hell' because of the seemingly endless time and expense that went into it, above paying too much from the gitgo, is a grade two and has become my favorite hammer gun. Chris Dawe did an exemplary job on a new stock, and Brad B did the barrels and case hardening. I loose myself in thought when looking at it. 30 minutes of admiring it is a very healthy alternative to 30 minutes of television.

Somebody brought in a 0 frame 16 at the Southern. You could tell it had been used a lot and cared for well. A perfect bird gun.

That may have been me, unless there were two for sale. One I bought had the twist barrels done.
I like it.

Not if I got it for the original quote, and not if it had a trace of finish. Until Brad finished, the best part about it was the new stock. I just want a 30" gun. This one will have to go in the box with me.

51327, O Grade. it's been extensively restored. Barrels are nice, Frame too. Has the lightening cuts, Fish Tail, Hammers are replacements. Stock has right many repaired spots, re-finished checkering re-cut, well done though.
It's a good shooter, not the best collector gun

What's 3 years to a gun that is 133 years old?
Still in my safe, still on my project list.

Still magical, too, for the way it comes up and kills ducks almost by itself.
