POSTING PICTURES

I have been trying to post high quality pictures on the for sale pictures of my guns, but the pictures come out very grainy compared to what I can see on my computer. Is there something that I might be doing wrong? Any help is appreciated. I am wondering if the pictures would look grainy if I emailed them direct. Help

I have even tried opening an album and posting pictures but I still loose 50% of the detail. I look at other close up pictures on other members albums and the detail is there. When I view my pictures on the computer they are sharp , crisp, and very detailed. Has anyone had this issue? I know there are some great photographers on this site. I have a NIKON D 60 can anyone tell me what I need to do to get close up detailed pictures that will actual post?

To take great close up pictures with detail you need a 60mm F/2 macro lens use an f stop of f14 to f16. Otherwise with a standard 50mm lens increase your f stop to increase the depth of field to like f 14 1/60 shutter speed and use a flash and an iso setting of 200. Set your image size to like 3500 and then crop the part of the image you want to show in detail. You will loose detail if you re-size images.

Hi Phil,

The album of the DH which you posted today looks okay.

I shoot my close ups with a Nikon D200 and 60mm Micro Nikkor Lens. I shoot close ups from a stable tripod with a RF remote shutter release. I also spend a lot of time adjusting the light to reduce glare for each shot.

I use a Medium JPEG format. My photos are re-sized using the standard MS Office Picture Manager to Document Large before uploading.

Cropping it helps. I will try the settings on the camera you suggested and try posting again. Still not all of the detail I wanted as I think it is automatically resizing. At least the case color is not washing out and the detail is getting better. I appreciate everyone's help. Getting the detail is a little tricky.

What do you have your f stop set at, more f stop will increase the depth of field (more in focus from the front of the image to back of the image)?? Try increasing the image size setting to like 4500 pixels before cropping the image, That may be the best you will be able to do without a Macro lens. Craig
