I am just curious, over the years I have seen some fluid steel 10ga ejector guns, mostly PHE's and a DHE. Ejectors came out in the early 1900's when twist steel 10's and damascus 10's were still being built. Does anyone have or has anyone seen a composite barrel Parker 10ga (Grade 1 and 2 in particular) with ejectors? I suspect they would be quite uncommon.

Aside from missing stock books, the Serialization Book will tell you exactly how many ten gauge ejector guns were made in various grades. Unfortunately, most of the missing stock books are in the era that would include ejector tens. Give it a shot and get back to us.

I think I saw one in my collection of decoy catalogs. It would have been in the late 80's or early 90's.I'll check and see if I can find it.I remember because there was a 10 VHE with steel barrels about the same time in a different sale.

A long time friend has a 10 bore VHE with steel barrels. If I remember correctly this gun is one of 3 made.

I have been going through the Serialization Book looking for ejector equipped 10's, looking to find any grade 1 or 2 with composite barrels. I have come to the conclusion an ejector 10 bore is very uncommon.

I found only 13 ejector equipped 10's between 108909 (1902) and 195336 (1921). All but two were grade 3 or higher and only four with composite barrels. I am sure there are some built after this date but 10's were getting few and far between and my eyes tired.

I did notice another interesting group of guns, ten guns, all 10ga with code DV (Vulcan grade with Damascus Barrels), 173953 to 173962, none of them with ejectors.

Those ten gauge guns were shipped January 7, 1916 to Iver Johnson Sporting Goods in Boston. The price was $25.00 each. A whole raft of Twist barrel twelve gauges were included on the same order for $22.00 each. These were the Twist barrel Trojans that are so hard to find. Parker Brothers must have been getting rid of composite barrels and making a bulk sale at a discounted price. However, my notes tell me that these are not the cheapest Trojans ever sold by PB. The cheapest I have found were $19.00.

I have a DHE 1908 Damascus gun with original ejectors 149020

The Serialization book says that is a D3 28 gauge with 28" tubes. Is it actually a 10ga gun?

That's funny..... my research letter says it is a 28 gauge ejector gun with 24" Damascus barrels. I know the books say the barrels are 28" Titanic but the letter agrees with what I have in my safe.

Sound like an interesting gun, if the letter agrees with what you have then it is a 28 gauge ejector gun?

How does that relate to the question of 10ga ejector guns? Or is 149020 a 10 bore?

Yea Dean,

You had me excited over your 10 gauge ejector gun. All it is is a little 28 gauge ejector :(

Ive never ordered a letter on it and don't have my serialization book handy. What does it say #57172 should be?

149020 is a 28 ga. gun. Just thought I'd chime in because it is Damascus and was originally ordered with ejectors.

I would suspect not a lot of 10 bore Parkers were ordered with ejectors. A good number of serious waterfowl hunters reloaded their spent shells but if they are kicked overboard by an ejector gun there is little or no chance of reloading them.

Dean that makes a lot of sense to me. I also think the additional charge of $25 or so for ejectors on a Grade 1 or 2 gun was a big increase over the basic price of those models. I am still surprised by the small number of ejector equipped 10's.

According to the ID & Ser book it is a hammerless Grade 3 with capped pistol grip and 32" 10 ga. Damascus barrels.

Thank you Dean. Since the King & Hayes ejector mechanism was patented in 1901 I always believed my 10 gauge must have gone back to the factory to have the ejector mechanism fitted. Do we have an idea of the earliest known ejector gun?

I am sure it will be in The Parker Story and I'll take a look for that information this evening and let you know.

Yours may very well have gone back to Meriden for ejectors... a research letter may show that.
