View Full Version : Where do you live

From a couple of recent posts I have determined that other PGCA members I have contacted online actually live in part of the country where I just drove through. I have often wondered why PGCA members don't at least post their state of residence on their member box visible to others. I am not a fanatic but in my case at least I would have liked to contact these members to talk shotguns etc. over a cup of coffee maybe. I know people want their privacy respected and I understand that completely. Yet I live here in California with another residence in Colorado and would like to meet or at least hear about other members in those states. I know of at least 2 other members of the PGCA who live in California. Am I the only one who might wish to meet others and possibly get some shoots going in this state. Are all shoots destined to be on the East coast? Gosh, I hope not.
Are there others who feel the same as me who would post their state of residence so maybe some of us can get together.

Wayne I promise I may not drive all the way to Georgia but if I had plans to be in that area in the future I would like to make arrangements to visit and share your coffee. I already plan to visit Charlie Cleveland if I am in his area as I have an invitation.

Dennis I am here in Las Vegas, as my great grandparents on both sides came to work on the Hover Dam, and would love to talk guns with anyone anytime. Most the time it is me dealing out knowledge to people about these shotguns with the limited amount I know. It is amazes me how little even gun people know about American vintage shotguns, I have met no one around here who has heard of Parker Brothers.

I am totally with Edgar but he beat me to it as I had to fix some eggplant parmesan and fried green tomatoes for dinner. I have been known to go to Gibraltar and then England for good fish and chips. Both places were great too. In England my companions, Dave Ross and his lovely wife, Monica helped to make the meal special. I would go to Newfoundland for fish and chips though.

Guys and Gals, I guess I have to apologize as this thread isn't going exactly the way I thought it would. One member thought I wanted everyone to post their exact name and address which would allow anyone with $30.00 to have access to most likely millions of dollars of high grade firearms. I told him that as an ex cop and correctional officer that would be dumb.
I don't want to know anybody's exact address or any personal information about forum members at all. I didn't want the BOD to take a vote and have everyone put their state in their avatar either. I wanted to start a thread to see if there wasn't some way for those of us who do not live in the Northeast where many forum members live to be able to shoot with one another where we do live. Maybe I should have made that clear. Darn, maybe it still isn't clear. In my avatar I listed that I live in Southern California. For me anyone who lives in Southern can contact me and I would be happy to drive to visit them, shoot clay targets, maybe hunt big game together or simply have a cup of coffee or lunch. I don't want to move in nor do I want to impose in the slightest possible way. I was trying to promote comradeship between members. That was it. I have already received PM's from two members, one in CA and another in another state asking to possibly get together. I am looking forward to meeting each person. Maybe we will have a cup of coffee and then go our separate ways. Maybe we will become lifelong friends. Who knows. That is what I am trying to promote. Nobody HAS to do it but if we put our state in our avatar at least we will know who else is in the same state we are in. I genuinely appreciate those who wrote in with their state but I am not going to remember those comments. On my trip East a couple of weeks ago I probably passed within 50 miles of two members who have recently posted on the forum. From being a forum member for over a year now I have read their posts and have a great deal of respect for them both. Had I known where they live I would have tried to contact them ahead of time to meet them. Of course I had no idea what state they live in. I was told we all received a list of members with addresses. I don't know if I did or not. I may have. Personally if I was a dishonest individual I wonder how much I could sell that list for to a criminal.
I hope this serves as somewhat of an explanation of what my intention was.

Our best local beers are Blackhorse ,Jockey Club,Dominion,Blue star and India with a couploe little craft brewerys thrown in for good measure ...as far as I know Blackhorse is the only on that gets exported to mainland Canada
The most famous rum here is Screech,Jamacian black rum thats been mixed here for generations ...it's been toned down quite a bit over the years to appeal to the masses, the origional you could almost stand a spoon it so I'm told
The Fi and chi is a big staple in most every restaurant, but you have to go to the little hole in the walls for the best,we serve it up here with a thick batter and savoury bread crumb dressing,as to what they fry it in it's most times a big secret....I'm getting real hungry fast and it's only 9 in the morning!

Richard, I used to live in Anchorage for a while in the 80's so am familiar with snowshoes and avgas. I would happily bring both.

I live in northcentral PA very near the NY border and close to the PA Grand Canyon. I too often wondered why folks did not at least list the state in which they reside. When pictures are posted it is nice to be able to correlate the cover/countryside with the area it was taken.

Star, Idaho, eh Thomas??? I flew over the potato fields south of there once on my way to Salt Lake City and couldn't figure out why all these stake trucks were full of boulders..... until I went low enough to tell that they were potatoes! They looked about the size of footballs!

Richard: I don't think they compare to the vegetabils out of the Mat Valley in Palmer Alaska were the guy just grew a pumpkin that weighed over a thousand pounds, now that's a lot of pies. Yes they do grow some taters here and if you eat in McDonalds or five Guys you get Idaho fries. Thomas

Roger that. That Valley pumpkin guy just broke the record for his third time. He's dedicated. The broccoli heads up here in Fairbanks this summer are dinner plate sized. Never seen anything like it. It was a rainy summer so Interior gardens really produced. After seeing those big Idaho potatoes I knew where the incredibly long McD's fries came from.

The socialist state of Massachusetts. Want to move up north now that wife has passed but daughters are threatening to drive a stake through my heart if I leave the state and the grandkids. My compromise may be to sell the house here in Plymouth in a year or so, get an apartment here and buy a camp up north close or on some water for the grandkids.

I'm a little northeast of High Level, Alberta. That is about 100 miles from the Northwest Territories border. There is a relatively small patch of farm land to the south east of me, but other than that it is all government owned boreal forest without a lot of roads.
I don't know anyone within hundreds of miles that shoots vintage SxSs or would know the difference between a Stevens and a Parker. Met up with Richard Flanders and Trigg Davis at a friends place that is on the highway south from Alaska a few times for a Parker goose and grouse shoot and that was a true pleasure. Some day, probably when I retire, I hope to spend a summer in the NE U.S. and hit all the vintage SxS shoots. If anyone is passing through northwest Alberta High Level is the last town before you hit the territories. Drop me a pm and we can get together and talk shotguns or do some shooting.
