New to Forum with Parker issue....

Hi. I am new to Parkerguns.org.

I have a C Grade S/S 12 ga. serial # 130910.

I took it shooting this past weekend and once I fired both barrels I can not now open the gun. I have not had this problem in the past. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Others will chime in with other possibilities. I've that issue when the rim recesses in the breech are tight, as in the shells fit too tightly into the recesses. Does the gun close hard? I have 3 Parkers with tight rim recesses. Try putting the floorplate onto a padded surface that will take some pressure but will not scratch it and pressing down on the breech end of the bbls to try to close the gun tighter. If it's the recesses this may loosen the pressure on the locking luck and allow you to move the lever to the right. i have a 28ga that I have had to put into a rubber jawed vise to close it tighter-scary to say the least-and the lever moves easily when I do it. Just be very very cautious whatever you do.

See if the forend will come off, and the barrels should drop down as you push the top lever to the right . Certain shells expand to much when fired and this causes the problem

Thanks to those who responded. The spent shells had expanded. By turning the gun upside down and trying to close it tight then removing the forend I then was able to turn the gun up right on a padded table and move the lever enough to unlock the barrels. One of the shells had expanded so much I had to pry it out. Thanks for your help.

See my earlier post on my problem with steel rimmed hulls. Be careful forcing the gun open. You will put too much pressure on the cocking hook and take a chance in breaking it. Trust me on that one.

If you can at least break open the barrels to unlock the bolt, get a dowel rod and go in from the muzzle end and tap the shell out.

I had the same problem on my 1903 DH. Depending on the way the rib and wall is radiused vs a 90 degree angle, it will cause the gun to be hard to close and hard to open if you have shallow rim cuts. Various manufacturers have slightly different radius's. These were new shells with brass bases. Some manufacturers shells worked, others didn't. Solved it by having the chamber rim cuts deepened. Also the extractor was very tight going into it's recess adding to the problem. A little emery paper fixed that.

The rim recesses on my 28ga VHE were so tight that no modern 28ga shell would chamber. I had to open them up to get the gun to close and lock up, but once done have never had a bit of trouble with it.

Also check your primers for drag marks. The pins could have gotten stuck in them. I had a PH grade once that had one firing pin that was a bit peened flat and it would get stuck into primers making the gun hard to open. I had to remove the hammer and clean up the pin.
Parker Hammers in hammerless guns do rebound slightly so normally pins sticking in primers are not an issue.
If your gun is also difficult to close when loading now shells, the rim recess could be too small making modern shells a tight fit. The rim may need to be recut to accept modern shells.
Or it could just be junk hulls. Explore those 3 things. I cannot think of anything else.
