I want to thank everyone that has attended to this point. Jent Mitchell held a fabulous dinner for the Virginia Vintagers and all were in attendance. Rich Anderson, Mark Ouellette and Mike Smith as well as Chuck Bishop manned the Parker Display for the masses while Kevin and Murph held court. There was the B Grade 8 bore that Jonathan Engle graced us with as well as his outstanding Fox collection that was displayed. Roger Bain won the single barrel trap shoot in a shoot off over George Calamaris. Three squads shot from 27 yards rise and the winner took home a jar of Palmetto Moonshine and folding money for the first place prize to win the West Va. Cup. A great time by all the shooters was had. We have 1 more day and great weather and I hope all my friends will attend. I want to thank everyone that has graced us with their presence and will see everyone next year............. What a fabulous time to this point...........Someone will win the Argentina trip tomorrow........Come shoot.

Chuck, it was a nice shooting day. You, Tracy, and John put together an enjoyable event, in a very nice venue. I liked the sporting clays format and the ZI-ZI birds supplied a lot of laughs for paticipants and spectators alike. A good time was had. Should be more fun tomorrow.

Great to see you and thanks for the kind words.....John and I would not have pulled this off but for the kindness of you and the rest of our friends that drove forever to be here. We have had some great shooting and guns and hope this event will grow legs and become the shoot to attend. I want to thank all the vendors as well as the collectors associations (Parker, Fox and L.C. Smith) for their attendance ( Pastor Charlie Brooks for pushing the single barrel event) as well as all of our friends that took off WORK this week to attend. Bob Ermilio, Gary and Lisa Downey, Phil Futrell, Roger Bain, Bill Blackstone, Kevin and Tom McCormack, Britton Condon, Jerry Smith, Tom Hugger, George Calamaris, To'mas Frontier and Gordie White, Traci Brunner, JD Shank and the Parker Collectors Association. A special thanks to Jent Mitchell and the Va. Vintagers for gracing us with their first class presence. We had a ball and look forward to tomorrow..............

Chuck, it is the best side by side shoot I have ever attended and I have attended a bunch. You and John are the heroes of all attendees. The awards ceremony is the best I have ever witnessed, and you probably know why. The Lovely Linda joins me in congratulationg our long time friend Britton Condon for his big wins. As I have forever preached, International Skeet is the best building block for an all around competition shooter. Of course, big muscles and youth are not impediments. Chuck and John have made a bunch of new friends and gotten a new perspective from some old ones. You don't want to miss this shoot next year.

I am humbled by your kind words. The show was great because of its attendees and your endorsement means everything. I hope it will grow and our attendance next year will include all of our friends. There were some Great guns there and some fabulous competition. The shoot-off between Roger Bain (Winchester Custom Shop 30" Trap ) and George Calamaris ( Parker VHE 32" Trap ) on the trap competition was exactly what we had hoped for ..... Down to the last shot with 1 bird separating the winner. We saw some beautiful old single and double trap guns including Kevins BHE vent rib 32" trap as well as Charley Brooks old LC Smith warrior.. Rich Anderson shot a borrowed a mint c grade single shot ... Roger graciously offered a honorary toast to George and proceeded to pass the West Va. Mason Jar around the horn.....George provided the Palmetto Distillery "Shine". A fitting end to a great day..... Britton as you said is a fabulous shooter and had some very tough competition from the entire field. He informed me that the course was tough but all targets could be broken and it showed....No one ran it but there were some high scores all 3 days..John and Jimmy did a great job of setting it up. And then there will be the pictures...Lots of pictures... Taken by Mike Smith of North Carolina ... He graciously stayed until the very end to take the photos of the winners from all the events and will be uploading many photos from all 3 days ... Thanks again Mike ..... Then there were the guns ... a smoking original vhe 410 skeet ... Darryl's cache of 28ga guns that continued to come out of cases from everywhere and Johnathan's Family Foxes ..... Never again in this lifetime ... these were fitting for a museum ... they shot the course .. Gary Downey shot the Dean Whitter 20 ga over/under Woodward (well) at 5 stand with all the other Pegs filled with England's best ... I had a blast to say the least ...

Photo #5 shows Daryl Corona watching Mike Smith shoot.
Photo #8 shows my 36" DH 10, Jonathan's Becker built Fox CE, and Mike's Fox Skeet and Upland.

Chuck,
This was my first time at an event like this and I had a great time. Prospect Hall is a beautiful place and the people were wonderful. Met a lot of good people and saw plenty of nice guns. My favorite guns were those seen during the "show and tell" out of the backs of our trucks. Daryl's 28's and GHE 20 were something else.
I got to shoot with Rich, Mark, Mike, Daryl, and Chuck. Rich shot his 28 as well as he did his 12, and Mark can swing those big 10's as fast as anybody.
I don't think I have ever shot as poorly as this weekend. I did get sick Thurs. night and felt like crap the whole time, but that's no excuse.
Hope you hold the event again next year. Thanks to you, your lovely wife Traci, Mr. Algood, Jimmy, and the Virginia Vintagers for such a nice time.

That's going to be a tough one. Prospect Hall's website posts scores of their public shoots on their website, but I don't know how quickly that will be done. Hopefully, Chuck will find time to post the scores on the wvgunshow.com website, the site for the shoot.

This was a great time and for a first year shoot, & it was done very, very well. The Sporting Clays course was wonderfull with some tricky shots and some simo's (this is Hillbilly lingo for True Pair, I think they have a problem down south with compound words:rotf:) that were a challenge esp with the 28ga. The Hunters Clays course was a fun thing to shoot and my only regret is I only shot it once:banghead:
For those of you who passed on this because it was a first time shoot, to close behind the Southern or to close to Hausmanns missed a great time both on the course and off.

The last pictures on the second page showed the finalists in the "Steve Barnett Lookalike Competition", the young lady who ran the food service and the Virginia Vintagers banquet, and the elusive Bob Beach, Griffin and Howe historian. No one who attended the shoot can say enough about the food service and the Friday night buffet. Chuck, what is that lady's name? I thought she was a bit of a treasure.

The Steve Barnett lookalike contest was apparently judged by one of the promoters who was also a contestant. The prize for that event was two adorable West Virginia road dump kittens. According to Chuck, Bill Murphy was the first place finisher. Bill graciously donated his prize to a couple of lovely young ladies who proudly disappeared with their booty after the awards ceremony.

I've attached a sampling of photos that I took this past weekend, mainly of the grounds at Prospect Hall, and our time on the Hunters Clays course. Mark took some great photos of us on the main course, and I tried to do the same on the Hunters course on Saturday. I drove up from NC and stayed the whole weekend from start to finish and had a blast. There were so many highlights that it's hard to mention them all. I shot the 50 round course on Thursday and Friday in 12ga, 16ga and 20ga and shot the Hunters Clays course (40 clays) and the Main Event (85 clays) on Saturday as well. I shot Trap for the first time this weekend, as part of the WV Cup, which was 25 birds from the 27 Yard Line. Thanks to Chuck Brunner for the crash course and to Roger Bain for letting me borrow his Winchester Trap gun for the shoot. Breaking 13 out of 25 with a borrowed gun from that distance, I was pretty happy, and it makes me wish there was a place to shoot Trap where I live. I want to thank Chuck Brunner and all those involved for putting on an amazing event. The course was challenging with some presentations that I've personally never shot before (Poison Birds for instance), and was made even more so for the main event. Jent Mitchell and the Virginia Vintagers put out quite the spread on Friday night, and thanks to George Calomaris for bringing that Palmetto Moonshine! My jar is already half gone. It was great to see and shoot with old friends, and to meet and spend time with new friends like Harold Pickens, Fred Very, Jonathan Engle, etc. This weekend is all about SxS guns, and we sure got to see some fine one's this weekend. Many thanks to Jonathan Engle for sharing his outstanding Fox Collection with us, and that incredible 8ga B Grade Hammer Gun. I seem to recall a few gems from Mr. Murphy too, including the only 30" 8ga Parker made, a "Try Gun" and a very nice high grade double trap. This one is going on the calendar next year for sure, and I hope to see more of you guys there!

Great photos Mike. I think you captured my good side. Had such a good time, despite my poor shooting, that I made reservations for Hausmann's event. I guess somebody has to be low gun and it makes Rich look better. Hope you can make it, but us older guys all remember when family took presedence over such things.

Hate to repeat the message but thanks to Mike and Mark for capturing the fun with their cameras. Many thanks to Chuck and John Allgood for a first class event which I knew they would pull off without a hitch. Also thanks to Jimmy and the staff of Prospect Hall for their first class treatment of the shooters. Already looking forward to the 2014 event. By the way Rich, You would'nt be able to shoot your Parkers in Argentina as that is really a semi-auto venue, but would'nt it be fun with that 32" 16 and a loader?

I don't think the Argentina trip is neccesarily a semi-auto venue. Check with our mentors, Chuck and John.

Rich, I don't doubt your resolve after watching you bird dog that gun all weekend. I'm sure there is a spot cleared in the safe for it already. :)

We missed ya' "E" -- You would have had a blast with the Va Corn Squeezin's and the clay bustin. Family first however, I hope you had a good time with your daughter. Traci and I were a wreck last year with 2 leaving the nest...

I await the tracking number....patience is a virtue but so is dogged determination:rotf: The combination of fall, color a staunch pointer and a damascuss small bore.....priceless....I can hardly wait:bowdown:

We would hope so, E. You can't even imagine what you missed. It was one great shoot with the best guns ever seen at a side by side event.

I am so confused. As I have said before, the shoot is May 15, 16, and 17, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, home on Sunday.

It's ok Bill the confusion comes with age. It's just different that they have the shoot Thurs-Sat insted of what most shoots schedule Fri-Sun. It's odd thats all.

Where is a good place to stay for this shoot? It looks like I won't be able to make the Southern because of a Boy Scout commitment, but we want to make to this one.

Ed last year I stayed at a Knights Inn I think in Winchester but will have to check. The rooms were clean, good beds and very reasonable cost wise. I'll stay there again.
