Just picked up a 1882 10ga Remington - worked a bit on it and shot one shell. The recoil was way less than my 10ga Parker. Last year I tried shooting SC's with the Parker and man was it kicking the sh** out of me. Let a buddy shoot it and he couldn't believe I was shooting 50 clays with it. The Parker has 2 5/8" chambers and that's what my shells are trimmed to. Only using 1oz of shot. The Parker has no forcing cones, just a step at the end of the chamber. The bores are big - .800 . Can't figure it out. Maybe have the step removed at the end of the chamber so there is a slight forcing cone and 2 7/8" shells could be used. Then I could use the same shell in both guns. The Parker is a nice lifter and I'd really like to use it.

Often 'felt recoil' is the result of the gun's pitch and drop as well as the gun's ability to dampen recoil through its mass or weight. How do your guns compare in these areas?

A 1 ounce load at a normal velocity would be tame as a kitten in a 8 3/4 to 10+ pound gun. If a short ten is kicking hard with 1 ounce loads I have to believe something is wrong with the load.

im with pete on his idea...a 1 ounce load should be easy on any 10 ga gun....charlie

I'm with Dean on this one. Paul, give us a comparison on the two guns as far as drop, pitch, lop, etc. What is your 1 oz. load?

I have 10 old SxS's [ Parker or Remington ] and have bent all the stocks for the same measurements. For this reason I don't believe there should be a big difference in recoil. The Parker 10 I'm having trouble with is not a heavy weight - a little over 8#'s. The load was one of Sherman Bells - 18grs of 700X, Rem SP10 wad with a couple of 16ga cards inside, 1oz of shot. I shot the same load in the Remington - soft as can be. Shoot it in the Parker and my eye teeth come loose. I've been shooting and reloading since the 1970's. I'm at a loss.
