I agree with Eric in that the engraving is more defined. My DHE 16 132731, from about the same year looks less defined. It too, has a st. grip but has 26" barrels.

Not trying to pirate this interesting thread, but I wonder how many DHE 20's were made with a chequered butt rather than a skeleton butt plate.

Just Wondering, George

Other than true late skeet guns, which are mostly V's, mine may be the only DHE 20 with checkered butt.

Regarding Scott's new gun, I know this was bought through a private sale and not on the open market. Highly desirable small bore Parkers seldom reach the market and are often sold privately by word of mouth.

Thanks Bruce, Dean, et al The one that I have I bought at Holt's auction in England. It has British proofs and an initial plate with the name McGraw engraved. I plan to bring it to The Southern to try for more information. The Parker letter that I recieved had very little new info aside from the fact that it was made & shipped in 1925.

Best Regards, George

I know of another DHE 20 with a factory checkered butt and there are probably more. Generally, the only entry in the books that might refer to this feature would be a notation such as "no butt" or something along those lines. Some may not have any notation at all about it though it may still be a 'factory' checkered butt.
I know of a CHE 20 with 30" damascus barrels with a straight grip, checkered butt and no safety that was sent to Canada.

Several years ago (relying on memory) Mark Conrad bought a C grade with a checkered but which was factory original by the records at the Southern.

Scott I have a DHE 20 with 30 inch bbls and your going to love it. Congrats on a nice find.

The Billy Mitchell CHE has a checkered butt from the factory. It is an unusual special order gun with #1 frame, 28" Acme barrels, straight grip, and the mentioned checkered butt.

What is the "Billy Mitchell" CHE? A gun once owned by Mitchell?

The question was about D 20's with checkered butt. I knew of one, and the owner of the other and I have talked on the telephone. It sounds like a great gun and he is hopeful he will be able to show it at the Southern. It was sent back to be restocked with straight grip and checkered butt. So now I know of two.

There are several other guns with checkered butts, including Gen. Billy Mitchell's C 12.
