A period correct pad such as a Jostam, Silvers or Hawkins would be a fine, easy and inexpensive way to do it. Those pads are what would be considered more correct for the gun. However, the Pachmyer old english leather face pads are very nice looking as well. And the sporting clays version of that pad is one heck of a pad.

Another option is to always add a wood extension onto the stock and have a guy like Mark Larson blend it in with his magic.
