On the 1882 price list 12-gauge guns were the base price. In the lower grades a 10-gauge was $5 more but the same as a 12-gauge in Grade 3 and higher. In all grades 16- & 20-gauges were $15 more than a 12-gauge and 8-gauges were $35 more than a 10-gauge. So, I don't imagine many folks were springing for those pipsqueak guns.
