Actually not ANY pad, but any pad that was in production at that time. That takes a bit of research to determine. You could accidentally put a pad on it that would be vintage, but not in production at the time the gun was ordered. That would be a mistake if you were trying to keep it vintage correct.

I've never seen a pad over 1" thick that looked correct on a vintage gun, to me. If a 1" pad isn't enough to get you to the LOP you need I would advise adding a KickKiller leather lace on recoil pad over the recoil pad. It will gain you an additional 1/2" and can be quickly removed when needed.
