I used to really enjoy going to my dentist up until about fifteen or twenty years ago when he moved (semi-retired actually) to Peterborough, NH. You see, he and I would talk about fly-fishing and fly-tying - well, he was usually the one doing the talking while he had his hands and tools in my mouth. He had a wonderful collection of original Carrie Stevens streamers mounted in cases on the walls of his office. It is quite surprising that the Stevens patterns tied today only resemble the originals in both color or hue of the materials and the tyeing style as well. Her original Gray Ghosts were tied with saddle hackles less gray and more like your example above in the lower right with the white background - more of a light bronze actually - and almost all of those tied today lack the red band of thread in the head.
