Up here the spruce grouse change from their normal lowbush cranberry diet to spruce needles in winter and taste like battery acid as a result! Yukkk. I'd guess blues do something similar. We have blues in SE Alaska but you generally hear them about 100ft up a gigantic fir or white spruce tree. I've heard many but have never actually seen one.
