What have we here?
Last month when contacting a favored seller for a tracking # on a purchase, I was apprised of two Parker's that just came into his possession.
I politely stated that I wasn't really looking at this moment, but to go ahead and send me some pictures.
Sound familiar?
The first was a 1923 VHE 30" 85% original case colors, DHBP, 2 3/4 chambers. Very nice.
The second, a 1917 DH Refin 30", Pachmayr "Old English" pad, and 2 3/4 chambers.
A significant discount was offered for the pair.
So...I placed a deposit and requested a hold as I awaited my FFL-03 approval.
A couple weeks later, the approval arrives and I forward the balance owed and by the end of the week they arrive at my door.
First impression were favorable (still are), so I sent off for a research letter for the DH (none available for the VHE).
A day or two later, I'm contacted by Chuck (thank you!!) stating that I should recheck the S/N as the one I submitted is for a 16 gauge VH with 28" barrels.
Thinking I "fat fingered" the S/N upon entry, I checked again to confirm.
Chuck has the correct S/N. So I sent him pictures, but they, of course, have no bearing on factory records.
So my question to this collective is what possible reasons could be attributed to this discrepancy?
1) data entry error at the factory? (unlikely)
2) Deliberate forgery? (again, unlikely)
3) Impressive upgrade? (how?)
Other than the curious circumstance, I'm pleased with the purchase. I've no grievance here, just a desire to learn from collective experience.
