The heavy urethane type finish makes repair work a little tricky. Without knowing the exact sort of damage, it is hard to advise on the best method of repair. Your question is too general.

I bought a repo 20/16 ga DHE with a scared up stock. I totally stripped the stock, steamed out the dents and sanded it very smooth. I masked the checkering. I refinished with Tru-Oil. Rubbed in many coats and later use linseed oil about once a year. It turned out very nice.
