According to Walt Snyder's book, they did beef up the gun for the magnums.

They are heavy and i would think you should not have too much trouble physically lengthening the chamber from a wall thickness standpoint.
The magnum tens had a through lug on the barrels which was supposed to have made the difference in it holding up to the heavier loads. The earlier Super tens did not.

Please please please
![]() Do not modify a super ten. If you want a 3 1/2 inch magnum NID there are several for sale on the various sites now There are many who would give an unaltered ( chamber and chokes) Ithaca super ten a loving home and a chance to do what it was designed for

Ithaca Gun Co. warned against it at the time.
Magnum-Ten Announcement 1.jpg Magnum-Ten Announcement 2.jpeg I wouldn't do it. Ithaca's NID Magnum-frame is longer, has a larger diameter hinge pin, and the barrel lug extends through the bottom of the frame. |

Thank you Gentlemen for your replies. I truly did not know if they modified the frame from 1926 with the Supers to the 3 1/2 inchers.
That is what is so good about this site, ask a question and one get the information needed to make an informed decision. |
