Great story and you will remember every minute of it for the rest of your life!
I breed Labs, I have 3 dogs now and all were puppies from my litters and each has become great hunters.
My middle dog, Parker learned on her own that if a bird is running down a path that if she goes 90° then turns again parallel and turns again that she pushes the bird back to the hunter. I didn't even think about trying to train that . They all figure out things we never would think about! Always trust the nose!
There is no better feeling than YOUR dog finding its first bird! Take pride in yourself and your your pup.
Congrats on your new son!
Thank you for your service!
