The Damascus pattern is four blade croille. The Bernard pattern was originated by Leopold Bernard et Cie, cannoniers to Napoleon Bonaparte.

A bit about Leopold

His daddy, Nicolas Albert Bernard was producing Damascus in Versailles by 1804. Napoleon Bonaparte came home with the superior damascus gun barrels after his 1798-99 expedition against the Mameluks in Egypt and Ottomans in Syria and modern Israel and encouraged production thereof in St. Etienne and Liege.

Bruce: What is the serial number of the 12ga, is it an ejector gun? I have a similar CHE and wonder if you could post clearer pictures of the engraving just so I can learn and compare. Thanks for the photo's Craig
